If Paul wasn´t too fond of the songs he wrote for The Paul Simon Song Book - he even wrote in the liner notes, "there are some [songs] I would not write today."

Then why would he re-record some of them with Art? Examples: "I Am Rock", "Leaves That Are Green", "The Sound of Silence", etc.

I seem to recall he said "There are songs here that I wouldn´t write today as I don´t believe in them as I once did. The songs I write today, won´t be mine tomorrow, I don´t regret the loss".

I never interpreted this as meaning he doesn´t like the songs, simply that he has moved on as a person. He was after all 22 or so years Old at the time! Kathy´s Song anyone?

Nick from Widnes Writes:

The Paul Simon Song Book recodred during Paul´s time in England around 1965 was recorded for the following reasons:

1: Paul had appeared on a BBC Radio show called Five to Ten which was a religious slot on the radio. He peformed some of the songs on the show. This was as a result of his then landlady Judith Piepe requesting the BBC feature Paul´s Songs.

Nick from Widnes Writes:

2: As a result The BBC got request to record and relase Paul Simon on record.

3: Paul went into the CBS Studios in London and recorded "The Paul Simon Songbook" It took an hour to record just Paul and a solo guitar.

4: Meanwhile "Sounds Of Silence" was released as a single in the US and eventualy went to No 1 in charts

5: Paul returned form England to promote the song with Art Garfunkel.

6: Columbia Records need a new album fast. As Paul could not get new songs written that fast Columbia said use the songs from "The Paul Simon Songbook"

7: As Columbia was parent company to CBS Records in London geting the ok to re relase the songs as Simon and Garfunkel was no prob to them.

8: The Album "The Paul Simon Songbook" was not available to US fans so to them these were new songs.

9: This was all due to Paul and his infamous writters block and delay in being unable to produce new songs as quick as lable requiered.

If you read the Paul Simon and Simon and Garfgunkel Biographies they explain about Paul´s writers block.

Hope this explains all. And Yes i tried to be breif!!!
