 | Two questions - does anybody know what the cover of Hearts And Bones is supposed to be (looks like Paul in a sweet shop to me) and secondly does anybody else think that on ´Cars Are Cars´ the lyric ´you can drive em on the left´ sounds like it is being sung (or someone mimicking) George Harrison??

 | Yeah, that line DOES sound like a George Harrison impersonation. Good call. The picture on the front cover of ´Hearts And Bones´ sleeve is,I believe,a photograph of the image of Paul being displayed on a television! You can make out the pixels of the tv screen. I also think he may be standing in front of a newspaper stand/kiosk, on a New York street, for example. I think too that whatever the footage of Paul is,that they photographed the television image and cropped off someone, most probably Carrie Fisher, who Paul has his left arm draped over. The b&w picture on the inner sleeve/booklet of H&B,of Paul sitting on a park bench(though not in a park),with a little girl behind him,is probably from the same television footage(judging by the clothing),but not taken from a tv screen obviously. And finally, could that little girl actually be Carrie? I´ve thought a lot about the art direction of this album for many years, but I´m sorry Damo, that I have only added further confusion to your question. |

 | Hi Damo... the re-issue of H&B says the front cover photo is credited to E.K.T.V. and the inside cover photo to a photographer called Arthur Elgort... in the reissue the photo under the clear tray os also credited to E.K.T.V. though I have no idea who they are! |

 | Hi Ian
Thanks for getting back to me. Hearts And Bones was, I think, the first Paul Simon album I bought and I loved it from the first notes of ´Allergies´ and still do. The cover just seems to articulate something for me but I still haven´t figured out what!!! Another question I have always wondered about - in the Late Great Johnny Ace, he says that a stranger came up and told him about Lennon´s death and they went to a bar together - is that a true story? Sorry, I have a million of these questions!! |

 | Nick from Widnes England writes:
I always asummed that the cover sleve for the vinal record (not CD) wich I have was a poor photograph from a TV station in possibily Japan, where Paul is very popular.

 | Hi all,as Danny pointed out, some of the photos were attributed to E.K.T.V.,which goes further to convince me that it is a photograph of a tv screen. I remember when I was 16 and waiting for the release of ´Think Too Much´,the long awaited reunion studio album from S&G. After months of rumours and constantly changing release dates,I got a phone call from my older brother who was a radio announcer in another city. He told me that he was holding an advance copy of ´Hearts And Bones´ in his hands and that it was a Paul Simon album, not S&G!! I distinctly remember him trying to give a verbal description of the album sleeve, and he described it as very colourful, and garish looking. That, combined with the LONG title of ´Rene and Georgette´ had me very intrigued to hear this album, and when my copy finally arrived,it almost didn´t leave my turntable for 2 years!! I Love ´H&B´ very much´. I also like ´Allergies´ which some don´t. I had heard it live at the ´S&G´ show earlier in ´83 and it sounded great in concert too. |

 | The cover looks to me like Paul is shopping. He is reaching to a shelf with his left hand and holding a shopping basket in his right.
He has been captured on the store´s CCTV.
Probably shopping for his own records at this time in his career!:) |
