Nick from Widnes England Writes:

We have all seen the Youtube clips of Paul Simon playing backing guitar to Steve Martin´s 5 string Banjo tune "Wally On the Run". Which is fantastic playing from two ledgens.

I have just bought Steve´s Ne CD:

"The Crow- New Songs for The Five String Banjo."

Label Rounder

Special guests featured are:

Mary Black
Vince Gill
Tim O´Brien
Dolly Parton
Earl Scruggs (Scuggs and Flat Fame)
Tony Trischka
Pete Wernick

Earl Scruggs is one of the great masters of banjo having been a part of the banjo guitar duo Scruggs and Flat who wrote and performed the hit US Comedy Theme "The Ballad Of Ged Clampet" for the TV show "The Beverly Hilbilies".

Also on the CD performing on certain tracks is dorbo master Jerry Douglas who regulary performs with Alison Krauss and Union Station. You will recognise Jerry from his appearance with Alsion on her two performances of "The Boxer" and "Graceland" on the Gershwin Tribute Concert DVD.

Well I Love the album and was wondering what you guys all think.

Sadly "wally On The Run" does not feature Paul Simon on guitar, that was a one off for the Jimmy Fallon Show on NBC US.

So what do you guys think of Steve Martin´s banjo playing let us know over to you....

i think steve is very talented!! i loved it when paul and he played together on Jimmy Fallon. In general, they were hilarious together on the episode and I think that they enjoy the same components of music. What´s your fav song on "the Crow"?

It is a great album. I want to buy it when we visit New England this autumn. It will be a great souvenir from our trip :)

There is a nice story at Mary Black´s homepage about the recording session in Dublin. Steve flew in and they had a great time.

On YouTube is a 10 minute audio/video where you can listen to the new album.

Thanks Nick! I will look into it. I have many of the Old SNL seasons and I Love the episodes where Steve Martin hosts. On some of them he even plays the banjo!

Mary Black has a beautiful voice, just unbelievable. Sometimes her songs are overproduced, to me, but her music is great and what a voice.

Hadn´t realise she was so well known outside Ireland! there is a series of albums called "A woman´s Heart" that she appears on, as well as her sister Frances. Also some other great Irish women singers including Eleanor McEvoy and Sharon Shannon.
