PHILOGRAPHY is the act of collecting autographs and La Trobe Uni student Xavier Smerdon shows the novices how it´s done.
Reeling at the price of tickets for Simon and Garfunkel´s recent singalong, Smerdon wrote a "soppy piece of fan mail´´ to Paul Simon, boldly asking for a ticket or piece of memorabilia, like a guitar pick.
What chutzpah! Smerdon was stunned when a package arrived in the mail: ``The letter read that Mr Simon had liked my fan mail and wanted me to have a piece of paper with the lyrics and notes to The Sound of Silence, which he had personally signed.´´ Simon must have loved that chutzpah.
