 | Has anyone heard the song shopping for clothes by the coasters. It is very like the song from the capeman "shoplifting clothes" I wonder if they were credited for it.

 | The lyrics & music of Shopping For Clothes from The Coasters are different from Paul´s song Shopliftin´ Clothes. This does not mean that Paul is not influenced by the song, he certainly is. One line of both songs is very similar; "Ohhhhhh...Buddy, that suit is you" and Paul´s lyric is "Man! that hat is you".
But that is how it goes in the music, musicians influence each other. In the booklet from The Coasters they told how a band member heard some lines in a song on the radio and they used them in the song Shopping For Clothes. Later they discovered who wrote them and sorted out the writer credits.

 | I think this is the same song that Jim Croce covered in his concerts, it is more than a little similar to Paul´s song, the whole tone of the song and the whole salesman banter is really exactly the same..well, lets call it being influenced |

 | Jim Croce did a very nice cover of Shopping For Clothes, a nice tribute to The Coasters. I don´t agree that it sounds similar to Paul´s song. Paul´s song creates a whole other feeling, it´s faster, has more spirit, and has different lyrics.

 | well, like the fast talking, fake-o hip clothes salesman is the same guy, the words are pretty darn close, admittedly not exactly the same, but maybe Derek Wallcot wrote them in Paul´s case.. |
