Nick from Widnes England writes:

The booklet that acompanies the New Paul Simon and Friends Gerswin Concert staes:

Of Mr Simon´s many concert apperances , he is most fond of the two concerts in Central Park New York (with his partner and childhood friend Art Garfunkel in 1981 and as a solo artist in 1991) and the series of shows he did at the invertation of Nelson Mandela in South Africa, the first American Artist to perform in post apartheid South Africa.

So where was your favg concert of Paul Simon Solo and or of Simon and Garfunkel together. Let us all know.

I enjoyed Paul´s return to Liverpool a few years back for the Summer Pops sahow that night he brought out Harper to Play The Boxer and said "This Ones for you guys" as hhe sang Homeward Bound.

Ok your turn best concert paul performed and also those luky enough the best Simon and Garfunkel Concert.

Has to be Graceland Dublin 1987 only sorry I didn´t get a ticket for the 2nd night. Love the CD of CP91,especially "She Moves On". Kilkenny 2002 was also great, but absence does make the heart grow fonder as it had been 10 years since the last concert!

I have been to 25 concerts (1983 to 2009) in 7 different countries, consisting of 16 Paul Simon (1991,1999,2000,2002,2008), 8 Simon & garfunkel (1983,2003,2009) & 1 Art Garfunkel (2002).

The best for me is a tie (all simon solo shows) - Oct 1991 Sydney, July 2002 Kilkenny, July 2002 Liverpool, Oct 2000 London.

the big thing about the Kilkenny & Liverpool 2002 shows was the audience participation and leaving the venues there was a buzz that was electric with everyone there having been truly thrilled by the performance of Paul & his exceptional band. The Dublin Irish Times captured this best with it´s review by saying "most of us skipped with Nureyevian grace (or so we thought) into Downtown Kilkenny bouyed by his sheer exuberance".

Best of the Simon & Garfunkel shows would be Auckland NZ 14th June 2009.

Having said that all 25 were great shows and I still remember them well for different things. The weakest was the Art Garfunkel solo show (only about 75-80 minutes long).

I saw Garfunkel in Auckland in 2002 also and I have a different opinion. I thought it was absolutely outstanding, the best concert I´ve been to.

Even after seeing Simon and Garfunkel I probably enjoyed seeing Garfunkel solo more, mostly I suspect because I had no idea of what songs he was going to sing beforehand.

My first concert, MSG 1999 in New York.
Althoug my seats were so bad (last row behind the stage! Because I could and I would not afford 300$ for a center-stage ticket), I stood up, and walked 180° around the arena to a door where I could dance with some people.
That was just luck, because all other doors have been guarded by some security persons. Only 4-5 people (older woman) have been dancing there, but it was just pure fun.

Once when I walked back to my seat some of these guards took my arm and cried: Where is your seat! Give me your ticket! I gave him my ticket - my seat was far away. He asked what I am doing here, and I said I went to the toilet. Then this guy said that he will throw me out if I walk away from my seat. But hey, he could not lower my enthusiasm. I took the way outside around the stadion to reach the place again where I could dance :-)

Near to the end of the concert a lot of people (hardcore idiotic Dylan fans in my opinion, sorry to say that) left the concert, so the rows left and right to the stage became empty.
I was so ecstatic that I jumped over 2 barriers to get closer to the stage. I stood above the entry where the musicians went on stage. There I stood for the last 2-3 encores
What I did not realize this evening:
One of the last encores was ´Born in Puerto Rico´, a song he never played live at any other show - with a lot of the Capeman stars. The last encore was also The Boxer, with Harper Simon as special guest.
I did not know any of these persons, haha.
That night I could not sleep for a minute. Well, but also a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit and a hotel room without air condition could be the reason.

BTW: Harper played a lot of times with Paul - AFAIK also in Milan in the year 2000 Harper played on the boxer, as also in Montreux 2002.

Hi Niki, I think I have a bootleg of that somewhere. I also meant to ask you when we met if you have or would like a copy of the Capeman Cast Recording (2CD´s). Very Good recording.

I´ll add it to the special section Nikki...

There even has been made a video from that show, nearly unwatchable - but sadly it stops before the encores.

Liverpool 2002 was a stunning show... the North West was where PS plied his trade and made a mark. We had been waiting a long, long time for him to show up, and boy oh boy, did he go down well!

Apart from the fella going nuts for kodakchrome all the way through, the show was fantastic. The tent had an intimate aire, half the crowd acknowledged Harper before he was intoduced by his dad, everything was lovely.

Paul was delighted and said so when he returned to the Echo arena in 2008(I think, I was there but it´s late). This brand new venue, just 200 yards west, couldn´t beat the tent. It was my 1st PS concert and has yet to be bettered...

I admit I nearly cried at Paul & Art at the MEN during Kathy´s song... A fully grown man and all that, reduced to a hopeless wreck by song... very sad... Liverpool still has it though.

Wish I´d beeen born 21 years before Live Rhymin sometimes tho!
