?Tide? is the new released Luciana Souza album (May 26, 2009)it includes on track 10 the song ?Amulet? written by Paul Simon. It is the first studio recording of this new Simon song, however it is the same version she did with Paul in the Beacon Show, it has no lyrics. The album is available for sale at Amazon and iTunes.

Why don´t you give it a try on amazon and listen to it? ;)

My personal opinion - not my taste.
I even would say: Does not sound good for this kind of music.

But I guess Paul won´t release it that way on one of his own albums.

I see that in the last years Paul starts to spend more time on finding unusual and sophisticated guitar arrangements, while the lyrics are less important, and the rhythm is lost completely.

I hope thats not really the style of his next album, or I will have to think very long if I should buy it.

Let´s not forget that the song will be released on this marimbas CD later this year...

Well, looking forward to hearing it, although I know it might not stay in our memory for long. I remember one review of Beacon show, qualifying as uninspired. The album Allmusic review does not even mention it, so...

Well, I gave it a try...and I have to say I Love it !

The guitar + Luciana´s voice are divine.

It is very short...I kind of feel that Simon could have developed a little more from it. At time, it sounds like an embellished and complexified guitar exercice...

Musically, it does not sound like something Simon has much explored, so I am impressed...the guy is still exploring folks !

For me it sounds like Pauls guitar playing.

And it sounds like as if the song is unfinished, they lyrics are still missing, and what she sings is just Pauls humming during the writting process.

Well - thats maybe only my opinion or my guess - but maybe Paul gave away that song, because he did not know what to do with it? Or why should this song be released on another artists album before? I think he never did that (beside the F&D soundtrack song...but thats another story)

Thanks Bodo,that sounds as good an explanation as any. She may have heard Paul playing and humming it at a soundcheck for the show,liked it,and asked if she could just improvise a little no-word melody over the top. As a complete Paul Simon composition,it probably does sound unfinished,but maybe Paul thought it said enough as a brief instrumental piece. Is it just guitar and voice,or are there other instruments too?

I only know the 30sec clip (have you heard it on amazon.com?)

There are no other instruments - and to my ears, Pauls guitar playing has not been reworked (you can hear sliding his fingers over the strings, and sometimes this is too much), which is either intended, or proofs that this is a ´early version´

Ok, there is no Proof that it is Pauls guitar playing, I have not found any detailed credits, and on 1 page only another guitar player is mentioned (for the album)

I see that it is written Paul ´gave´ the song to her, so eh probably could not use it for his own next album....

I´ve always wondered why people are averse to him rehashing Old material and uneasy with new bold new material. This new classical flavor deriving from an age before the four beat Rock era sounds fresh and exciting to me. I absolutely Love it and can´t wait to go along with him on this new adventure.
