 | Over the years since Paul Simon first started out there have been many different cover versions of his songs. What are the best versions out there.
Can we set up a top say 20 of the best of the covers of Paul?s songs by other artists.
Art Garfunkel already does excellent solo versions of Paul?s songs, but who else is as good.
In my list we would have:
In no particular order:
Deana Carter and Harper Simon - The Boxer
Bob Dylan - The Boxer
Joan Baze - The Boxer
The Bangles- Hazey Shade Of Winter
The Seekers - 59th Street Bridge Song
Elvis Presly- Bridge Over Troubled Water
Lets compile our top 20 and see what you all think oh and where possible list any CD where we can hear the tracks on or legal down load them.
Over to you guys

 | Nick from Widnes notes:
The worst cover of a Paul Simon Song has to be Frank Sinatra he had the ordacity to have the song re written and only kept the title in the song.
Best Duets of Paul´s songs
Paul and Harper The Boxer
Paul and John Myer- Boy In The Buble
Paul and Willie Nelson American Tune
Paul and Willie Nelson Homeward Bound

 | Nick again forgot to mention :
Paul and George Harrison Homeward Bound
Paul and George Harrison Here Comes The Sun.
Incidently Paul once met up with George Harrison around the time the Beatles Anthology came out. Paul says he was too nervous to ask for a copy as he was due to go out on tour I think whilst there another person got the book signed by George, who inserted his own versions of the others signatures on the end.
When Paul got back home after his tour he found a parcel. Incide was the Beatles Anthoogy signed to My Dear Paul and Edie George Harrison and the other three Beatles signatures.
A nice gift from George to a friend.

 | Hi Nick,
Have you seen the Collaborations page on this site, with different sections. That might be of great interest for you, look under MAIN.
For me the best live Cover versions are Graceland from Alison Krauss & Jerry Douglas and Gone At last from Yolanda Adams & Jessy Dixon on the Gershwin Prize Show 2007.
Paul is great at collaborations and he did quite a lot of them. A great cover/collaboration which I like a lot is Feelin? Groovy from Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper where Paul sang background vocals. It?s on The Live Adventures Of Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper.

 | Head and shoulders over any other cover is Aretha Franklin Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Eva Cassidy covers of BOTW and Kathy´s Song would also be high on my list. I am told that there is a recording of SOS but it has not been released. |

 | You mean Eva Cassidy even more material that hasn´t been released yet, is there no end to that catalogue!
Personally I think she makes the songs very "twee". The "best" comment I´ve heard was when somebody on hearing Kathy´s Song from the PS songbook, saying "Oh he sings it just like Eva Cassidys does" doooh... |

 | Not sure if he talks about Mrs. Robinson - but Paul now mentioned that he likes it very much (now)
BTW: I do not like the Lemonheads version of Mrs. Robinson. I think S&Gs version is the best one. And I hate all the other rocky versions.
Best one is probably Paul in London 2006. |

Eva Cassidy often performed Sound of Silence and she did Late In The Evening once or twice I was told. |

 | Nick from widnes writes:
Frank Sinatra covered Mrs Robinson and had the track rewritten as he refused to sing any lyrics refering to Jesus or God.
Is the reason Paul now likes the song because of the royalties from its re relase on franks greatest hits compelations.
Another great track is the Late Roy Obrbison´s version on DVd of Bridge Over Troubled Water its on the Live From Australia DVD.
In The UK we get a lot of people auditioning for X Factor POp Show who cover Paul Simon´s music. just goes to show a whole new generation appreciate Paul´s music not just the older generation.
I Love Paul´s music and am only 38 was not Born At The Right Time for the Simon and Garfunkel Years.

 | Frank Sinatra changed Mrs Robinson to ´JUDY Loves You More´ which makes no sense whatsoever...
Back then there was a preconception that religion & popular music shouldn´t mix. |

 | Its not it was to replace Jesus which is.
I remember my parents telling me that a song "why must I be a teenager in Love" was banned because the words were initially "each night I ask the Lord above". Eventually it was changed to "each night I ask the stars above", which actually is more poetic. |
