Do you think there will be a DVD released of this tour?

Reasons why yes...
1. The record company would Love to release a NEW DVD - it can be called "S&G Down Under" and will sell loads of copies even though we´ve had Old Friends.

2. The Old Friends DVD is poor quality.

3. It would be nice to have S&G immortalised in High Definition.

4. The setlist has solo sections and For Emily (I´d love to see this).

5. The band is different.

Reasons why no...
1. We already have the Old Friends DVD

2. Paul and Art might not feel like being recorded on this tour.

On May 19 Ian wrote that Sony are releasing a special Australia & New Zealand Tour edition of the ´Old Friends, Live on Stage´ DVD/CD pack. This appears to be no different to the earlier release, other than the addition of the words ´Australia & New Zealand Tour Edition´ on the front cover.

I didn´t hear anything more about it and I am not sure if it is already for sale.

Yes it is on sale and yes it is just the same DVD & 2CD release of the New York Dec 2003 shows.

Nope...I do not expect any DVD from this tour nor that I wish one.

It is just a geographic complement to the 2003/2004 trek. I would not see a reason to justify another release.

I would be interested to see the sales for the Old Friends DVD...

The Essential S&G was a big hit I think, but the Old Friends release seemed to have been a little flop. I presume the CP 81 DVD got much more sales than Old Friends. But I might be all wrong.

Another reason why not: They both will argue about who should get more money from this release.

As the writer of most songs, Paul say´s that he should get more. :)

Just a geographic complement?

Come on, they changed the setlist, parts of the band, and play some solo songs, and it´s 5 years since the last tour. They definately sound ´different´ (but I can not say if better or worse ;)

I think I prefer the Everly portion on the 2004 DVD to solo material from Artie, and even Paul.

The Everly was la crème de la crème !

Hey - I just checked the setlist. Not that big a difference from the 2003 setlist, if you exclude the solo parts. "I Am A Rock" I think was not there...but that´s about it.

I suspect that for the rest, they are probably flying on the automatic pilot.

The Everly´s wrote that most awful song/dirge ebony eyes, for that I could never forgive them.

To prefer them to Paul Simon singing solo - thats blasphemy!

imo:)

I think my mask has fallen...I am not a real Simon fan. LOL !!!

Just kidding...

Here is the context of my remark: since I am a fan and heard a thousand times these PS solo songs live, and still having some trouble figuring Boy in the Bubble in a S&G concert, I think I prefered this match made in heaven with the Everly back in 2003/2004. The EB had a very good and energetic set, and there was a connection (inspiration, time, etc.) and flow with S&G.

But having said that, that´s me who is the fan andf overanalyse. For the most concertgoer of this tour, if Boy in the Bubble is appreciated and inject energy into the show, well, that´s good. These guys must deliver a show where the $250 are perceived as worth-paid !

Hm, I agree with mog about the Everyls part - I think this was something much more special than just Art/Paul singin some of their solo songs.
And for a lot of people it was really Surprise to see the Everly Brothers

"Ebony Eyes" was written by John D. Loudermilk.

I stand corrected, but that makes it even worse that the EB sang it.

Although there is a certain poignancy to that song in light of the recent Air France disaster

I went to the New York shows in Dec 2003 that became the Old Friends DVD. Yes, it was great to see the Everly Brothers and in fact their harmonising outshone Paul & Art. Mostly, for those concerts Paul & Artie traded verses.

My feelings after the Auckalnd concerts is that their singing together was more often and better executed.

After seeing the them this time around and well they are working together I could see them continuing these shows beyond the current tour.

I don´t know how I feel about that though. It is time for a new solo album please.

there are those big cameras that roll along the floor up front by the stage on videos of one of the shows-the audience is roped off and you can see the camera-no idea what that means though
