 | In interviews, Paul has asked the unnamed voice that is so harsh and critical to identify itself. This is where I think it comes from - I call it the "statue" voice. I realized this while reading Les Miserables.
Les Miserables is about statues and hearts. Statue people are idealistic about human perfection in form and achievement - being the magnificant being God intended. They tend to be politically conservative, resect authority, Love competition and are into law and order. They condemn weakness and failure without mercy because they cannot abide loss of dignity. ... Their perfect world is full of beauty in the sense that people become all that they can be. I call the statue people because I think of Michaelangelo´s David and the Venus De Milo, etc. Perfect PHYSICAL beauty. Javert is the ultimate statue person. I am in part a statue person...
Heart people rebel against the cruelty that arises from the persuit of the ideal person. They value blind love and happiness above all else and are concerned with helping the losers in life. These people have a lot of guilt. Eponine is an example of a heart person.
Jean Valjean is an ideal of an integrated person. He is heart and statue. He sacrifices himself (like Jesus) yet he also a very noble figure - the proud convict who becomes Mayor. He is also above the petty fighting for pennies greed of the Thernediers. I strive to be statue and heart - aware of my own divinity and specialness while at the same time willing to sacrifice dignity in the name of love and peace, etc

 | This board can be quite critical at times, I think. Any artist should be flattered when what they do matters to people so much that they take the time to complain, even if it is too much at times. |
