 | How many fans bought either the limited editions of Paul Simon´s Martin acoustic or the limited run of the Yamaha black acoustic? If so how good are they to play?

 | That´s not fair! I can play but can never afford such a guitar which I would fondle and spoil like a kid. |

 | I sadly do not own either of Paul Simon´s guitars however the nearest to Paul´s Black Yamaha guitar is my Ephiphone SQ180 Signature Black Don Everly acoustic.
Sadly my main fav electric is my Fender Signature Eric Clapton Stratocaster.
Of course the reason for taking up the guitar in the first place was because of Paul Simon.

 | It´s probably my favourite possesion....certaintly the first thing I would grab in the event of a fire.
About time you introduced yourself properly....what´s your real name and where are you from?
Maybe we should have an intro thread so new members can introduce themselves properly and tell us something about themselves. |

 | Hi Julie
My name is Nick i am 38 and live in Widnes Near Liverpool England. My conection with Paul Simon is as follows:
In the Summer of 1965 Mr Geoff Speed was running a folk club in Widnes and booked the then unknown Paul Simon to perform at his club.
Later it transpired Paul had no base camp whilst in the area so Mr Speed invited him to stay at his parents house in Widnes. It was whilst Paul was here that he began to write part of "Homeward Bound" in the front room of Geoff´s family home, not Widnes Railway Station.
Also Paul showed Geoff an instrumental called "Angie" by Dave Graham. When Geoff and his wife had a daughter they named her after the tune. This was played on a Spanish guitar by Paul which Geoff owned.
In the late 90´s I became a member of the no sadly closed down Fender Guitar Club and ran the Widnes Local Fellowship and invited Geoff Speed to come along and talk about Paul Simon´s time in Widnes.
Geoff kindly brought along the guitar that Paul played "Angi" upon which I got to hold. Geoff also explained that Paul nver actually played guitar at Widnes Railway Station as he was running late for train.
Widnes Station is officially recognised as the railway station mentioned in the song. We used to have a plaque on display with the story but the two we had were sadly stolen i was lucky to get photo of original.

Further to my reply about my connection to Paul Simon.
I have found the photograph of the originasl Plaque re "Homeward Bound". Irt was supplied by the Harp Beer Company when they sponsored a series of plaques and a book explaing famous landmarks and thier rock and roll connection.
The Plaque details are as follows:
"The Harp Beat Rock Plaque:
WIDNES SATION
iT WAS WHILST WAITING FOR THE MILK TRAINON WIDNES STATION, AFTER A LOCAL FOLK GIG IN 1965, THAT PAUL SIMON YEARNING TO BE BACK IN LONDON IN THE ARMS OF HIS BELOVED KATHY BEGAN WRITTING HOMEWARD BOUND......"
Unfortuntaly Harp´s plaque was stolen as was their 2nd replacement copy.
Check out Victoria Kingston´s book "Simon and Garfunkel The Definative Biography" for full details of Paul Simon´s Northern tour of the Folk Clubs of England in 1965.
Hope you still enjoy playing "Homwward Bound" on your Paul Simon Signature Martin Julie
Regards
Nick from Widnes |

 | Sadly I was on holiday in Canada when Simon and Garfunkel came to UK in 2004. I have seen them solo over the years.
I was fortunate at one of Art Garfunkel`s concerts in Liverpool to actualy meet Mr G and get his autograph.
