Look into the chords section on this page

What does Scarborough Fair have to do with that song?

Hi Bodo,Paul used part of the lyrics from ´Side of a Hill´ as the counter-melody/lyric of ´Scarborough Fair´.

I´ve found the lyrics here : http://lyricwiki.org/Paul_Simon:The_Side_Of_A_Hill

"On The Side Of A Hill in a land called ´Somewhere´
A little boy lies asleep in the earth
While down in the valley a cruel war rages
And people forget what a child´s life is worth

On the side of a hill, a little cloud weeps
And waters the grave with its silent tears
While a soldier cleans and polishes a gun
That ended a life at the age of seven years

And the war rages on in the land called ´Somewhere´
And generals order their men to kill
And to fight for a cause they´ve long ago forgotten
While the little cloud weeps on the side of a hill"

Thanks Cecilia,as you can see, some of the lines are used in Scarborough Fairs Canticle section ´Fight for a cause they´d long ago forgotten´ and ´Generals order their soldiers to kill´ are two lines that come to mind. The melody from ´A Side of a Hill´ is not used. Paul and Art created a new counter melody for these lines.

i was just shocked Bodo didn´t know that these songs are connected somehow (the lyrics), being a Paul Simon for 18 years.
Sorry, i didn´t mean to offend you, Bodo. It was just the explanation to Jupira.

Cheers, Paul
:)

Beeing a Paul Simon fan made me never be a die hard fan of S&G, in fact I really never listen to any S&G albums.
