 | Always wondered why he chose the shot of himself in the hood. It´s sort of odd. What was trying to say about himself/his music with that? hmmmm.... Maybe he just thought it looked cool.

 | I think it looks very different to other covers, and that might be the reason.
Also on your first solo album you should have a picture of yourself I guess :) |

 | I´m still wondering whether this:
http://www.amazon.com/Roll-Flee-Nikola-Sarcevic/dp /B000IHY0VA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid =1239987366&sr=8-3
is a tribute or just a coincidence... |

 | I think it is a rather well known cover, at least some of the people in the business who have a hand in releasing music, should see the similarity. Though I think it is no coincidence.
Anybody knows the cover of Kruder and Dorfmeister, that is an imiation of the Bookends Cover? |

 | Well, the Kruder and Dorfmeister is most probably not a coincidence :o)
I also think the Sarcevic cover is not a coincidence...

 | I think I read somewhere that it was the picture of Paul Simon on that first solo album that first caught Edie´s eye. She thought he looked very cute in it.

 | Really? Surely he´s had cuter photos (think late 70s early 80s?? I wonder how much of that had to do with dating Princess Leia) It is a sweet photo though, I especially like the one inside with him and his dog :) |

 | The picture on the first album was taken by his then-wife Peggy Harper. It´s similar in feel to the picture of Paul McCartney on his first solo album, which was likewise taken by his then-wife. I think it was probably something to do with a kind of singer-songwriter withdrawal-from-the-world intimacy sort of mood at the time. |

 | I also like the picture with the dog. I have often wondered if that is the same dog that Paul mentioned as one of the inspirations for "Mother And Child Reunion" -- I think he said that a pet dog died and that was one reason he wrote that song. (The other being a Chinese restaurant menu of chicken and eggs.) |

 | You know Richard,I was just going to mention that myself. In ´One Man´s Ceiling...´ he mentions ´walking with my dogs´ plural,so this may be the dog,or the one remaining after the accident. On a personal note,in November last year I had to have my beautiful little darling dog ´Nelly´ put to sleep, after she gave me 12 years of faithful companionship. It was an extremely painful thing to have to do,and I spent many countless hours on the internet searching for some new cure,a little ray of hope, but found nothing. It was just at that emotional time that I first read about Paul´s dog,and the overwhelming grief he and Peggy endured after their dog was killed. Somehow,I found comfort in the fact that Paul was able to eventually put his grief aside and continue, and it gave me some hope. So in all ways,Paul´s music and lyrics speak to me,but I will never allow myself to get so emotionally involved with a pet again. |

 | Hi Ian, don´t let the grief associated with a pets put you off getting close to an animal again. One of the hardest things about this grief is the guilt of "but its only a dog" and discovering that others feel the same helps. I have had three animals over the years dying of Old age (2 cats (21y and 16y) and a dog (12y). All animals died peacefully at home with the people they loved most after long and happy lives. Knowing this made their loss easier to bare. I have had 2 cats and 2 dogs killed by RTA which also carries the feeling of guilt of not looking out for them. But the worst was when our house bully (a cat called Cagney) went out one morning 2 years ago and never came back! we still haven´t recovered and are very over protective of our orange kitten who is walking all over the key board at the moment, while our 5 year old dog is waiting impatiently to be walked on this lovely sunny sunday morning.
Once you get involved with a pet "something unstoppable is set into motion, nothing is different, but everything´s changed" |

 | Thanks Scaaty, for your kind words. Even as I wrote that before,I felt that I could never hold to never loving a pet again. I am sure that I will one day find another to take her place. That feeling of emptiness is very hard to shake though. I do Love animals and just like the line you quoted,it really is something unstoppable, when you find that little being that immediately takes your heart the moment you set eyes on them. Just time,I guess. Thanks again. |

 | I agree with what has been written about bonding with our non-human companions. The dog I grew up with died in my arms about 1 month after my first wife had died. the combination of losses was almost overwhelming. I ´swore´ I would never get another dog. 17 years later a shelter dog came into my life and I realized what I had been missing. She, too, is now gone, but I have 5 more rescued dogs and 2 rescued cats and my life is much much fuller because of it. So while it is heatbreaking when one dies, or even worse is lost, don´t pass up a chance to Love and be loved by another one. |
