 | Hi,can anyone tell me whether Paul´s collection of black Yamaha guitars are custom models,or were/are they commercial available? I know he has other custom made guitars, the Martin he uses often, for example, but I´m not sure about the Yamaha´s. Thanking in advance anyone who has any information.

 | AFAIK these are custom models - and I remember his ex wife Carrie Fisher sold one some years ago - she got it as a gift from Paul. |

 | Thanks Bodo,I think the one he gave Carrie Fisher was the Ovation Legend he played at CP81 though. I think you are correct about the Yamaha´s being custom made though,as they seem to be slightly smaller in body size than usual. He must have at least 3 of these guitars that I can tell from watching CP91. |

 | I´m sure I´ve seen ´Paul Simon Signature Editions´ based on the custom Yamaha builds for sale in the US... they are all second hand & go for huge amount though!
They are black & have ´Paul Simon´ inlaid into the fret board in mother of pearl. I want one :-( |

 | Yes Stefan,I agree. Beautiful sounding guitar. I´d Love the opportunity to just play one for an hour and run through some PS progressions, hearing it the way Paul Himself must hear it. Are they still available to buy? Thanks for the link too Danny J. I´ll go have a look at that directly. Actually,I believe I already have looked at that site, but it will be good to recap. Thanks again. |

 | I think there out of stock for a while. The first martin model is from 1997 and the other one from 2002.
But I saw one of the 1997 Model on Ebay like 2 Weeks ago.I think it was selling for more or less 4000 Dollers.
Should be fairly difficult to get one.
Ebay would be the best place to look around i guess.

 | Yep, because of Paul´s perfm in CP81, i myself bought a black guitar, which is crafted with motifs using mother of pearl on the neck - which is of lower grade. |

 | Me as well,Belle,I bought an Ovation ´Celebrity´ because of CP81. There wasn´t a black one available,so I went with the natural finish and colour, more like the Ovation Legend that Paul played on the ´The Late Great Johnny Ace´ at CP81. Regardless, that it was a cheaper option,it was still a lovely guitar. |

 | Well Ian, its nice to hear that! My guitar is crafted in korea ´Craft´, though its of a ´humble´ price, its good for my small hands. :-)
How Paul influences us... |

 | I have a handcrafted black Yamaha guitar which exactly looks like Paul Simons modell. It was made in 1984. |

 | Really Julie, you lucky lady. Has it a superior tone? I wouldn´t think to ask what you paid, but I assume it was a sizeable investment. I´d Love to rake my fingernails over those strings for a couple of hours. Fubel, when Paul uses his Yamaha´s,he more often than not strings them in a ´High String´ tuning, which gives a light shimmering sound. What does yours sound like with normal strings and tuning? |
