 | Poor ol´ paul got all his awards when Bush was in power thereby not getting much interest from the younger and popular media. I wonder does it also mean that many people will think he was in favour of the Bush regime.

 | Hm, I don`t care if Bush junior is made responsible for all the suffering that mankind must endure after all these many years.
I guess Simon thinks deeper.
He sang at Jimmy Carters inauguration in early 1978, and wished Ronald Reagan all the best after this bad period.
His real "enemy" was Nixon. |

 | So many appearances in a short time period... does Paul have to promote something? :) |

 | I hope so, but after watching his Interview with Charlie Rose in June 2007 with the great rendition of Slip slidin` away and the Barnes and Noble appearance recently I simply think, he has more time now.
His youngest child is about 11, and the man still has power and a great voice.
I fear and believe he will do this Asian tour with Garfunkel, it would make sense and a lot of people happy.
I hope he will give us some new recorded songs too. |

 | Simon, the recipient of the first Gershwin Prize, in 2007, deconstructed "If It´s Magic," turning it into a quiet, quavering acoustic folk song.

 | Did you find an explanation Bodo? I couldn´t find anything...
I found another article where Paul called Stevie Wonder a "blessing" and said "I am so glad my children are growing up under an Obama presidency."

 | Hi Ans,´quavering´ within the context used in the review means almost a tremelo effect I think. Instead of Paul holding a clean, steady note,he must have used a vibrato technique. Sometimes this can be unintentional, for example, singing a song below your comfortable range can create this effect. |

 | Thanks Ian.
Paul´s performance is on Youtube now, I can´t say it sounded quavering. A very good performance.

 | Loved it. Really great.
One of the reasons I always want him to do new songs (even if it is a cover). I prefer that 10.000 times against another Homeward Bound version. |

 | I have found a translation of quavering (or quaver), but I am happy Ian could explain it. Although I hope you are right Ian, because your explanation sounds very nice.
What I have found:
Definiton of quavering:
adjective: quavering, tremulous
(of the voice) quivering as from weakness or fear; "the Old lady´s quavering voice"; "spoke timidly in a tremulous voice"
and the word quaver:
quaver and semi-quaver means 1/8 or 1/16 note
and also: tremble, quake, earthquake, trill, warble, chatter, jitter, shake, vibrate ....
I understood it in a negative way...and I sometimes do not understand journalists. Pauls voice was just great (compare that with AG!), and Steve Wonder als also Mr. Obama just loved it!

 | Yikes! I can´t believe that writer could have meant to malign such a wonderful cover. To me it rightly sits beside ´Surfer Girl´ as an example of Paul´s ability to make a song his own, even if he didn´t compose it. Do you remember that Paul was considering recording an album of other writers songs to fulfil his contract with Columbia in 1977? I was always glad he didn´t do it,but listening to this performance,it may have actually been something I could have really enjoyed. |
