How many Grammy awards Paul Simon won? David Latterman said Paul won 13, but my ticket for a concert in Germany 2008 says 12.

Is there a list of his Grammy award winnings?

I think it is 12.

I never understood why Laterman mentionned 13...maybe a researcher in his team had a late night.

I think he was counting the lifetime achievement award.

12 is correct, the 13th is the lifetime one with AG.

Three times the most important one for album of the year (BOTW, Still crazy, Graceland) and three times the next important for song of the year. (Mrs. Robinson, BOTW, Graceland).

Besides he shared Grammies f.e. with Ladysmith Black Mambazo as producer of their album or Larry Knechtel for his piano intro for BOTW.

Personally, I think the lifetime achievement one counts! Let´s say 13!

You´re The One was nominated but he didn´t win which was a shame and even more of a Surprise, if you pardon the pun, was that Surprise didn´t even get nominated :(

Hm, I would not count it ;-)

Why?
a) Somehow I have the feeling they only got it for one reason - a reunion of S&G on stage + millions of people watching the Grammys then...

b) More than 1 person or group gets this award per year

c) Paul alone should have received a lifetime Grammy for his career of around 50 years now. The S&G period was only a few years, and then a few tours to please the fans. :) So again the reason for it was just point a)

If you look at this list
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifetime_Achievement_
Award

then I would say Paul now really DESERVS his award alone too. I mean: Joan Baez got one in 2007...and the Stones and Paul Mc Cartney way too early :)

I guess Nobody has received so many important grammies and remember, out of thousands (?) albums per year, not only YTO was nominated, but also There goes and ROTS.

The "lifetime grammy"? I´m not sure, whether it is really as carefully treated as the other ones (of which I think they are).

I feel it was more an announcement, justification and introduction for the "reconciliation" and tour afterwards.

Yes, Paul can be proud. ROTS and YTO were in the Best Album lists.

Surprise ? I do not know. I think it was fair that it did not make the list.

Was it the Herbick Hancock album that won that year ? That album was superb.
