There are a few recordings on Dime, all of them completely new for me (1973/1978). They were all recently uploaded, so if you have an account, check it out.

I have already downloaded the one from 1973 and there are a lot of songs that I never heard performed live before. It is really great.

The other show was already up some time ago and is also highly recommended because you hear songs that were never performed after that tour as far as I know.

it´s a website, http://www.dimeadozen.com

they have torrent files of non compyrighted music. You need to download a program called bittorrent or azuerus, and then you can download these torrents.

non copyrighted music.

ehm: no

I would say downloading music on dime is as illegal as every other sharing tool. But the music industry is not really interested in destroying the bootleg community (at the moment)

They have torrent files of ´till today not released material´.

Paul for example has the copyright for every live show he ever played.
Will you buy a live CD if you already had the chance to download it on dime some years before? (We will because of the better sound quality, others will not)

An the TV station has the copyright on the concerts they aired (so this is even ´released´ material... a grey zone in the ´dime rules´ in my opinion)

Looks like they found a way to be left alone by the industry.

They are very careful not to include something that has been offically released and every artist can tell them if he does not want to be "traded" Philip Glass is on such a list and that was the reason, why his performance at the Gershwin Awards was left out of the video that you could download from Dime.

But honestly. Only the real fans are willing to listen to the 5th version of the same concert tour and these people will mostly buy everything that is officially available. And the quality of course is not always very good. So they just ruin the Bootleg market because Nobody buys bootlegs anymore if you can have them for free.

So I think that most of the artists can live with that and that is why it is accepted as long they obey certain rules.

Well... I downloaded a few of the BBC One shows after I saw how good the quality was (Paul Simon - London)
They air TV concerts in DVD quality with 5.1 surround sound. I downloaded a few shows there, from artists I would never buy anything. So hm - well you could argue that the music industry does not loose anything, because I would´n have bought it...but now I have those concerts on DVD, and I like them.

I do not think that every user on dime has ´every´ CD/DVD from any artist he is actually downloading bootlegs from.

If they want to ruin the bootleg market, why do they limit the account number to 100.000 on dime? A rule I never understood...

I don´t think that it is their intention to ruin the bootleg market, but that is what is happening. Why should I pay for a bootleg when I can have it for free?

The limit is maybe a technical thing? I don´t know exactly how this works but you can´t download when their server is down. So some of the trafic does go over their system and maybe they have problems when the amount of users isn´t limited.

Well, it´s certainly hard to say anything really precise about places like Dime. Is it legal/illegal? Why is there a strict member limit?

It might be true that they are not there to close down the bootleg market, but certainly a lot of the users in there are very much against paying for bootlegs. I like that about the place.

Anyway, I just got to listen to the rescent 1973 recording from in there from start to end. It´s great! I like the two first solo albums so much, and it´s really nice to have a good audience recording from that period with more tracks on than Live Rhymin´. Sweet.

Dimeadozen looks like a big scam. i´ve downloaded Azureus program but it asks me to pay to activate it. Guess i´ll delete it right away.
