In top 3 with Graceland and Diamonds I think. Even better than Al.

As soon as I saw the title of your post I, Crazy Love popped into my head, so you must be right! Has he ever played it live?

My favourite from the album has to be Under African Skies though, I just adore that.

Crazy Love is a gorgeous song. Another gem from the album is Homeless - not sure whether that classifies as being underrated though, I haven´t seen it be given much attention since I´ve gotten into Paul, but then I haven´t been a fan for that long either (relatively speaking at least :)) Scott yes he did play Crazy Love live - you can watch it on the Graceland Concert DVD

I´m also going with Under African Skies. I prefer the version with Meriam Makeba.

I vote for African Skies.

This is nice to have a short converstion on Graceland. So here you are my opinion:

There is no question for me that my number one is Diamonds. Great introduction, great music great singing and the best bass-part of the 80s. I can listen to it at every time.

I like very much Crazy Love and All Around The World. They are very good at the the verses though the Refrains of both are a little bit more boring and weak. I understand that after the subtile beginning with Fat Charlie you need some more swing - too much for me. The same with Fingerprints: the Rock and Roll of the watermelon is a bit biting. Anyway I listen to them time to time.

So I would rank African Skies at the second.

But we should talk also about the song wich is overestimated on thet album. And that is You Can Call Me Al. Probably good to dance and so on, but for me there are hundred songs by Simon that are better.

I must say "Crazy Love" or "Homeless" also. Althrough "Diamonds" is what I lift weights to,and I and clean house with w/ the whole album.

I think Crazy Love is quite underrated - as is All Around The World. But I absolutely love them anyway, like most other Simon songs I hear :)

Crazy Love and Gumboots are my favourite underrated songs.

Some of the songwrighting is unbelievable - that bit about the fire in your life on the evening news and rearranging my position on a friend of mine who had a little bit of a breakdown.

Someone recently wrote that Paul Simon is never better when writing about his divorce. Listen to those lyrics on Graceland and Rhythm Of The Saints with songs like She Moves On and Further To Fly - I think Carrie Fisher was as great an inspiration in the 1980s as Kathy was in the 1960s.

and 50 ways from his first marrage

The whole Still crazy-album is about his first marriage (in the song Graceland he mentioned it too).

By far his darkest album, with hopeless songs like Some folks, cynical like Have A Good Time and 50 ways, bitter like You`re kind or I Do It For Your Love, mysterious like Silent Eyes. The only hopeful song (again after a long string of bad luck) is Gone at last.

Quite a contrast to There goes..., where American Tune is the only really dark song.

For me There goes is his masterpiece, with a lot of new sounds.

His first album was about to show his abilities as serious musician, with some hits and some songs to demonstrate that. Hobo`s Blues, Paranoia Blues, Armistice Day, Everything put together are not "crowd-pleasers" contrary to the songs on Bridge.

When I hear them now, they somehow remind me on Surprise.

For me That Was Your Mother is the most underrated, (even at times forgotten), it did not even make the set list for the 87 tour.
I like the lyrics and overall buoyancy of the track. It was the one that made the most impact when I heard a preview of the album.

I don´t overall agree with you on Still Crazy, Klausi.
It´s clear that some songs are a bit down and the mood of the album is different, but they´re not all that sad. Have A Good Time is - according to Paul himself - really a joke, and 50 ways is also written for fun. The choruses came out of a rhyming game that he used to play with Harper, when he was about four (Harper of course, not Paul :D).
But I agree with you on the first album (Paul Simon). Not many of the songs there are crowd-pleasers, but I still think they´re quite good, in their own way :)
