Hi Mr. Simon! My name is Chris Berridge and I am a HUGE fan of your music and have been since I was about 5 years Old (currently 24). While listening to my fathers cassette tape of "Graceland" everyday continuously for months, me and my friends covered your song "You Can Call Me Al" for a lip sync contest when I was in Grade 1 elementary school (6 or 7 years old). I knew the lyrics so well it was as if I had written them LOL, even though I didn´t know what half of them meant. My whole family, friends, and teachers could not believe how well I could lip sync your amazing song, with its intricate timings and tongue twisting lyrics. They decided to vote me into the competition involving the whole school! After a quick rehearsal, me and my friends took the stage in front of the whole school, staff, and parents. We CONQUERED that stage and all of the competition. We won FIRST place as well as the respect of the whole school!
I happen to have the video of that historical event and would be absolutely thrilled if there was any way in hell I could get you to view this video? I can promise that you will enjoy it as much as me and my family have over the years.
You have maintained to influence me musically, mentally, and spiritually (through your inspiring lyrics) for all these years that I have become a musician myself. I cannot explain the impact "Graceland" had on me. Just about everyone that has listened to Graceland cannot deny that it is probably the BEST album ever created!! I mean this with complete sincerity. You must be so proud of it! It actually changed my life. I am sure you get that all the time but I just had to say it. I am also sure you don´t read these messages personally because of your busy schedule but I am willing to take that chance. I have looked into sending this video to your persons, or at least to someone who can screen it for you and maybe recommend to view it and I have been unsuccessful. But I will not give up on my dream to hear that Paul Simon has seen this video.
