 | "The Essential" entered the US-charts at No. 42 the first week, which is somehow surprising for me since there is certainly almost no airplay of/for it. |

 | No. 42 position seems quite weak to me...
Last time we saw a Paul Simon album entered the charts at that position, it was Songs From The Capeman. And we know what happened then...LOL !!!!
I dunno...I saw it at HMV last week...the set with the DVD was 27.99$. That is quite costly for another rehash set. |

 | I don`t know. I think its quite a respectable position/entry. We`ve read here that many people won`t buy it, and this is from his fan base.
Considering a best of, greatest hits, or whatever gets churned out after each studio album I think it reflects some reasonable sales.
As for Capeman, as much as I Love it, I`m sure many would have found it an acquired taste. The swearing probably didn`t help, and it was risky subject matter.

 | I´m thrilled with the number 42 position --- I never thought it would have charted at all. It´s his third greatest hits album and it got very little publicity. My guess is that 42 will be it´s peak position, but it´s still cool to see that it charted at all. |

 | Cool it got on the charts! I´ve been at ten or so musicstores here in Denmark, and couldn´t seem to find it anywhere...has it arrived in Europe at all? |

 | Jon - although they are not were not all released in every market there were more than three:
Greatest Hits, Etc
Negotiations & Love Songs
Born At The Right Time - The Best of Paul Simon (Australia/Japan)
Paul Simon - The Collection (Japan - box set including above)
The Paul Simon Anthology
Paul Simon 1964/1993 (box set including above)
Greatest Hits- Shining like a National Guitar
Paul Simon Colletion - On My Way Don´t Know Where I am Going
Essential Paul Simon
I make that nine (plus two live albums) so it is incredible that this new compilation charted as high as no.42 |

 | I`ve got it two weeks ago, the version with DVD.
This is still available at JPC, Germany, but as US-Import within one week.
New delivery date for the two-CD- set there is August 17!
It is not in the JPC or Amazon-charts or elsewhere, seems it has been withdrawn, at least for Europe. |

 | Went to my HMV yesterday for some Cd´s. Noticed that The Essential is not anymore in their top 40 sellers (after what ? 2-3 weeks on the sheleves).
Although, Spanish Harlem CD was in the said top 40. This CD seems to be quite popular, at least in my area. I thought when I bought it that it was a relatively obscure title, but I was damn wrong ! Perfect soundrack for this time of year anyway. |
