Don´t forget: PBS, Wed, 9pm Eastern in the USA.

Hopefully it will be broadcast on some level internationally for the rest of you folks. Those of you in other US time zones be ware that PBS may or may not start it at a different time.

The best I can do is tape the show, but I then have no way of getting it into digital format. That said, I can´t wait to see it.

There is an interesting article on the web from USA Today about PS timed for the Gershwin TV show. (Sorry, I don´t know how to post the link, but I am sure one of you can!) Generally very favorable to PS, but in the article, he says he hasn´t written a song in two years and he has no interest in releasing a new album...

I will be taping the show and I will be able to transfer it to digital but the hardware I need won´t be available to me for a while so it might be a few weeks before I can share it here.

The interesting point in the article is: "I want to go back at it"...

Oh yeah....!!! That´s good news.

I will also tape the show. I want to make myself a nice DVD with the Montréal Tribute.

By the way, the said tribute (or a part of it...) has been released as an official CD. Go to http://www.archambault.ca and type "hommage à  Paul Simon".

Sad to hear he hasn´t written a song in 2 years... I mean, was there ever such a long period before...

well when you consider that since 2004 he was on tour with Art Garfunkle for 18 months, then there was the release of Surprise and the tour following that, meanwhile he had a growing family and a sick parent. not much time to do any song writing there methinks.

Well - when I was reading the article I did not have the feeling it was the lack of time what made him stop writing, he said some things like ´maybe it´s gone´...or ´you have to write, or you will loose it´. That looks more like as if he is feeling uncomfortable with the fact that he wasn´t able to write because he had no ideas....
Thats what I was reading in there.

And, I am not sure what Paul Simon is doin all the time, but I think he has enough time, I mean free time - but he is doin a lot of other things, like making promotion for this Democrat... hm.
(I mean, come on, his kid´s are at school, other parents work the whole day - so what is he doing then ;-) )

Simon is probably a little bit lazy...I mean I have the feeling that he really have to kick his ass in order to start a new album. But it is okay...the man is already legendary, fortune was made long time ago, young family, getting Old....has explored a lot, needs an interesting project to get off of his couch.

And quite frankly, except for his core audience, the mass only expect from him to play the same old songs. The is no pressure from the "market" for a new album(his most recent ones do not sell anyway).

If he tours again this fall in Europe, you can´t forget for sure any writing during that period of time...then, add 2-3 years to make an album and you can plan one around 2011.

All in all, I don´t blame him at all and I am just grateful that he is still thinking about writing again. If I wanted to follow an artist in his florishing period, I would be a Beck fan, not a Simon one.

But please, no more Greatest Hits for a while !

It is certainly not laziness with Paul Simon, nor lack of time, it is stimulation which is the key. The stimulation which triggers the impulse to create. But when you have nearly everything, seen nearly everything, and achieved nearly everything, it takes something extra special to do so.

I agree with Simon. I can imagine that you just don´t sit down a write just to keep yourself busy.

... and having kids that age can easily consume most of your time if you take it seriously Bodo!! I still wonder about those people who work who have a fulltime job while their kids are young. I would defintely choose to spend more time with them if I could afford it - and I am quite sure that he can afford it not to work *g*

I think he lacks inspiration to write new songs. Look at McCartney-- some of his best solo work started with Flaming Pie, which was written while Linda was ill and dying. Since then, his life has been full of ups and downs and his music has been revitalized.

On the other hand, Paul (Simon that is) is very happy and content and seems to be living with a lot of joy and calmness surrounding him. The recent death of his mother is certainly a life-changing sad thing but she was 97. I don´t expect that to radically change his Patterns, but you never know.

I am not saying that I want him to have a crisis so that he will write more great songs, I am just making this observation. He has done enough great work, I wish him happiness.

Well Mimi - what I said was - all his kids are going to school now, in the US you have a full day school

So he brings him to school in the morning, and back in the afternoon - now you can´t say this consumes all of his day time. That has nothing to do with taking it seriously. (I don´t expect him to sit in the car in front of the school building for 8 hours..)
