Very true, the only one that seemed to sell was Shining Like a National Guitar . The Paul Simon Collection: On My Way, Don´t Know Where I´m Goin´, didn`t seem to do much, but I suspect this new one will get some publicity.

I do not expect that...

At least not outside the UK ;-)

The Paul Simon collection wasn´t released initially this side of the atlantic - so maybe that would have something to do with it. worth getting for the (now misleading) message "look out for Paul Simon´s new album in spring 2003".

Will there be a similar message on the new compilation?

For me it looks as if Warner wants to use some of the attention that comes with the Gershwin price.

Let´s do something this time. Somebody here on the forum buys it. The video portion can then be put on this site for all the fans and then, WB is screwed !

Nice revange after all these years.

Well, mog, though I understand your motives, that is of course a really bad idea. It would obviously get our friend Bodo in big troubles and might close this site down entirely, which would be a catastrophy.

But I do understand the frustration. Endless releases of compilations always with a little something that makes the fans buy - not very nice behaviour...

Well - in one of the last articles I read that ´Paul does just put the songs for this new Essential compilation´ together... so I´m not only blaming Warner.

Depending on the video I´ll buy it.

As for the Paul Simon Collection not being available here, the one I got must have been an import, although it didn´t carry the usual sticker.

As for publicity, I SUSPECT it will get some, not EXPECT it to. It would follow some logic if if did. Even if it is just in the UK

I´ll also wait and see what is on the video... As they do not make a lot of advertising around this DVD my expectations are not that high (I don´t expect a live video...and also not a video clips compilation because they could sell that as a single item too)

I bought the "On my way" collection because of the mini live CD (I was at 2 of these shows...)

"I bought the "On my way" collection because of the mini live CD (I was at 2 of these shows...)"

So did I. I didn´t really hear it a lot, but I actually found that it is nice to have a PS "Greatest Hits" (it´s the only I got - but I´m actually thinking of buying all the others, just for the sake of completing the collection (can you believe that? ;-) ) ), I put in on, when we have guests that don´t share my interest in Paul Simon but don´t mind hearing his "best" songs.

Yeah that´s a good point Soren. I´m tempted to buy the others ones too just to have a complete Paul Simon collection. Plus I really Love my compilation CD cos it has most of my favorite tracks and a lot of the time I prefer listening to that than listening to an entire studio album.

But then there is the problem when you download everything onto a MP3 player - do you include the compilations - resulting in duplicates/tripilicates of the exact same recording right down to the last second.
Of the last 2 compilation albums I suggest just get the " I´m on my way, dont know where I´m goin´" album as it has the extra CD, the other album SLANG has just the same recordings of all the other songs.

The mini live CD to the "On My Way" collection, appears to have been only a limited edition, and and now axed from copies on sale here. Absurd when it was the main reason for buying it in the first place.Greatest Hits Etc CD, always one of the best,is long deleted, and a devil to get hold of (Im still trying). The new Essential looks just another shameless profit making venture. Im wondering what else the record company can do to alienate true fans. Thank God for the BBC and the promise of a truly noteworthy documentary, and the bonus of the very rare, The Northern Line.

I don`t think this will be a success.

Successful in the US were:

Greatest Hits etc. Platinum (more than 1 Million units)

Negotiations And Love Songs Platinum

1964 - 1993 Gold (more than 500.000) Since it is a three-CD-Box, more than 1,5 million, which was surprising for me. But there was "Thelma" and his great fame at that time.

I have the greatest hits etc (tape) - bought it in the early eighties when I first got into Paul solo as opposed to the other chap - it was the cheapest way of catching up on his 70´s stuff. The 3cd set was on the shelves for just a short while here, It seems to have been replaced by the Paul Simon anthology
