speaking of no hit song since Graceland, I think that Simon and Garfunkel should have made Citizen of the Planet a single with live Cecilia on the other side. Given everything that´s been going on in the world, I think Citizen of the Planet would have done very well. And it´s an excellent song.

Also, does anybody have any insight into when Paul will tour again? Perhaps this PBS show will spark something...How about Paul w/ James Taylor and Artie. That would be frigin cool.

Todays music industry has a talent to fob off the real fans AND the normal customers at the same time :-)

What would not be a waste of time, would be an expanded and remastered re-issue of the "Live Rhymin" album, rather than another pointless compilation.I feel it would reel in both loyal and casual fans alike, but would require more imagination( the music suffers, the music business thrives).

however the "essential" series has been made on most other major singer/songwriters. I really value my copies of the essential Leonard cohen; billy joel and bob dylan. And they seem to cover a few off beat songs as well. There should be one on paul as well - but maybe they should have made it instead of SLANG (wow!!) or the PS collection.
But I agree a DVD of CP91 or the Surprise tour would be better.

I thought that the true "Essential Collection" was made by Sony Records.

I am little bit puzzled by an "essential" one released by Warner Bros. They probably want to surf on the success of the Sony Series.

With regard to the content of the collection, I really have no expectations. What could you really expect after Negotiations, 1964-1993, Shining, PS Collection and the remasters ?

Count on them to include the little extra though that will make you buy it for the 25th times.

I am eager to see the DVD content, but my expectations are really low as well. The packaging of the Old Friends DVD and its bonus were rather rotten. So...

The only good thing about it is the fact that it is going to sell well probably and will provide people with excerpt of Paul´s most recent work. Cuz...let´s face it : "Surprise" was hidden in the disc stores most of the time as an obscure CD while "The Essential S&G" has been in the top sellers for 4 years...

Live Rhymin` is still one of the best sounding live records ever, far better than CP 81 and 91. Remastering is not necessary, expanding with what?

All Simon albums are his own, even The Paul Simon Songbook. So he released it finally too.

Sony has no rights on these albums.

A "package" album should only be named Greatest, Best or Essential.

I think some people were irritated or wondering about the titles "Negotiations And Love Songs" and "Shining like a national guitar" as best of-records. Name the things what they are.

Live Rhymin album, one concert or several spliced together?. Which songs at which venues? Personnel? Clearer photos? Maybe some background info to the Live Rhymin tour.It cries out for a re issue, it is half an album without the detail.

They could expand Live Rhymin in that the the full concert had like twenty songs. They only released 12.

I agree that the rest of the concert should be released. I saw PS on that tour and the album fails to do the show justice.

Click on the link below and scroll down. There are no DVD details, but at least it gives a track listing and you get to see the cover.

Most strange that there`s nothing out there telling us what to expect.

interesting that the cover shows him in his 40´s, when he looked really well (IMO, maybe cos that s when I really got into him), he always dressed well then too.

It´s a good choice of tracks. Appears that some thought has been put into the arrangement too, rather than the normal straightforward chronological order. Wonder what´s on the DVD.

And yes I think most ppl would agree Scaaty that Paul looked his best in his 40s. You really notice that esp in the collage someone made a few weeks ago of him and carrie. I think that´s part of the reason he put more effort into his appearance - he had to match his gorgeous young hollywood star.

In the early 90s I used to wear the same kind of clothes for University. Looked smart but casual. Shame he doesn´t still dress that way, well cool.

Hey - while writing my text for my blog (http://www.tarddanslasoiree.blogspot.com/), I realized that they put a compilation out after every studio album released since Graceland ! Unbelievable !
