Its not something to be afraid of... John was a little "too much romantic " from my point of view, but not a bad singer,in fact I like/d him singing...(country,most of all)

There should have been a duet...half "Annie´s Song" half "Kathy´s Song" :)

Seriously though, John Denver was pretty damned good.

I actually met John Denver in 1994 and spoke for about ten minutes with him. There was,and always will be a certain cringe element about being a John Denver fan as I guess there is in being a Neil Diamond fan for example. It is hard to quantify the difference between these three songwriters and why our Paul has never been cursed with the afforementioned ´cringe´. After all they are all singer/songwriters who predominately play acoustic guitar and each has a loyal fanbase,so while they have these things in commen, there IS something that sets JD and ND way apart from Paul Simon and I think it has to do with how the public perceives them (obviously). In Denvers case I think he just tried to hard to be liked by every demographic out there,so much so that his hip-O-meter reading, which should have been fairly high with true classics like Rocky Mountain High, was always tempered by truly abysmal crap like Grandma´s Feather Bed. As far as Neil Diamond goes it might be sequined jump suits that worked against him??? Diamond himself was surprised to be invited to perform at The Band´s ´Last Waltz´ concert! But, I think the main reason,is that Paul Simon is SO lyrically, musically and emotionally advanced that any comparison with almost anybody would be totally futile. Whew! Tomorrow´s lesson: ´Why Marlon Brando was a better actor than James Dean....

A fan, or not, there was nothing cringeworthy about Neil Diamonds recent 12 songs.

I would rate Neil Diamond much higher than john Denver but obviously not as high as our Paul. John denver i would put in the same league as Daniel O Donnell, Josh would know who that is:)

Hey don´t get me wrong,I do like Neil Diamond (I do rate him higher than Denver, certainly). I am only going by conversations I have had with many people over the years about this subject. I certainly didn´t mean to single ND out,or to downplay his huge contribution too popular music. I Love the Hot August Night live album, and songs like Sweet Caroline,Cherry Cherry and Solitary Man are goosebump stuff, absolutely. In fact, I am I Said was the first song I taught myself to fingerpick on the guitar. The guitar in fact was the reason I gravitated towards musicians such as these, and even before I knew the difference between a flat 9 chord and a flatbed truck,my fifteen year Old brain intuited that Paul Simon was so close, yet so far ahead of the pack that it was he I was going to devote my attention to. Yes Scaaty,I am only too aware of Daniel O´Donnell. I would classify him as ´The Blue Rinse Wet Dream´ mayhap...
