 | She is certainly cult somehow. Everybody knows "Because the night". She was more in the hard or punk rock section.
On her new album of covers (Twelve) she sings Simon`s Boy in the bubble. (I guess she would not have sung Bridge Over Troubled Water or Slip slidin`away...) |

 | I was a bit surprised at Patti Smiths decision to cover a Paul Simon song. More predictable is Curtis Stigers choice to tackle Pauls American Tune, on his recent album, Real Emotional(March 2007). |

 | I read an interview, where she said she hates Paul Simon but she had to sing that song for some reason. Well, anyway... |

 | When someone wants to do a cover, is it Paul himself who approves or rejects it? |

 | Warner music, in your country AFAIK
But I do not know their rules, or if Paul has any special rules. I only knew a friend of mine wanted to do a cover for his first CD, he asked, and they rejected it.
I don´t think Paul decided´s about everything :-P |

 | Not exactly, Mimi. This is a recent interview:
Q.: In ´Please, kill me´ you spoke about the punk rock like something that tried to end with the songs of Paul Simon and that civilized pop that seems thought for readers of ´The New Yorker´ and spectators of Woody Allen. Nevertheless now you use the song ´The Boy In The Bubble´!
A.:I wanted to illuminate the moment that we lived. That song speaks about terrorism, about monitoring with cameras, about threats that we believed distant, in other countries, and that now we suffered. |

 | Yes,so even hard bitten ex punk rockers, like Ms Smith are eventually won over by the brilliance and topicality of a Paul Simon song.In the sleeve notes to the album she does indeed mention the political content of BITB, as well as "the enviable lyrics". Not for the first time Paul had his finger on the pulse. |
