I´ve just been on the poll and answered yes to a question about Paul & Edie recording together. And I find myself asking this question...Why, when it seems ok for Paul to record with other artists, people here have a problem with Paul recording with Edie?

Is it simply because she´s his wife?

Would you think the same if Paul wanted to do an album with Harper?

Paul & Edie are two excellent writters in their own right. Brilliant performers, and so on. I personally think it would be really good. What I´ve heard they sound great together.

So what gives?!

I don´t think Paul and Edie should record together, and also Paul not together with Harper.
Edie and Harper have the right to their own career´s and to develop themselves in their own music style.
I´m also glad that they don´t perform together, only once in a while by rare occasions.

Edie and Harper like to work together, they will have an album out this spring or summer. Edie and Harper also appear on the new album of Suphala, a young tabla artist.

According to "Meeting Simon" section in the following link, Paul and Edie talked about making an album of children´s songs in 2004.

But it has not been made and released yet.

This album will not be made and released, Edie told this to a fan on the last New Bohemians tour. The children didn´t like this idea, especially Gabriel who tought of the songs as their own special songs, Edie and Paul want to respect that.

Errr...Paul also has the right to his own career too and if he so chose to record with Edie then so be it.

In truth you never really said why you don´t think they should record together.

They actually have already collaborate. Edie´s Picture Perfect Morning was produced by Paul and features Paul on guitar and backing vocals.

"In truth you never really said why you don´t think they should record together."

True, I was not very clear in my answer, it was more to read between the lines and draw your own conclusions. But my message was too short...;-)

Proof is right about PFM and that´s also a part of the answer, Edie was not completely satisfied herself about Picture Perfect Morning and the album didn´t sell that good, the critics said it was too over produced and not Edie´s style. I think Edie was much happier with her other solo album Volcano, with her collaboration with Charlie Sexton. She called him her soul brother.

There will always be too much comparisons made by the critics. I think Edie and Harper should go by their own music without being compared to Paul´s songwriting which will certainly happen when they would collaborate together.

But don´t get me wrong, I like PFM, it´s a good album.

Don´t worry Paul will have a new solo album out in 2012 (or something like that) and Edie Brickell probably before that...

Read the reviews to Picture Perfect Morning and you will have part of the answer. A lot of people thought she had some uncredited help in writing the songs. And that must be annoying when you write your own material and people don´t believe it. I think I remember and interview where she said exactly that. Working together was alright, but most of the people thought of it as a teacher/pupil relationship and it wasn´t like that.

I Love the blend of their voices together but I agree with Ans, that it wouldn´t be a good idea for Edie, if she wants to keep her own profile as an artist.

I also heard the story for the "children songs". They recorded one song and their kids didn´t like the idea at all, that everbody would listen to their "private" songs. And they respected that and gave up that idea.

nothing to do with this thread really, other than I´ve heard that Edie & Harper have a cd due in July. Regarding Harper, does anyone now if there´s a link to listen to or download his song The Shine? I´ve tried Harpers "My Space" but can´t locate it - thanks . Wayne
