 | 20 years ago, I spent the summer in New York City. I had decided to do a ´Paul Simon´s fan pilgrimage´ I attended a Graceland Concert at the Madison Square Garden, went to Central Park, The Brick Building and even spent a week in Montauk.
I had also decided to go to Queens to see Paul´s childhood house. I arrived in front of what I supposed was the right house (there was a row of houses which looked very much alike) but I wanted to make sure. So I decided to ring the bell of the next door neighbour. A nice lady opened the door and I explained that I was a Paul Simon fan, that I wanted to take a photo of the house he had lived in and because I had come all the way from France I wanted to make sure I was standing in front of the RIGHT house.
She confirmed then she asked me how Old I was (22) and shook her head.She said ´Now, listen to me, find yourself a man, the RIGHT man, marry him and forget Paul Simon !´
A few years later, I partially followed her advice and married the right man - but I never forgot Paul Simon. |
