 | How nice of you...
Listen-- the fact is that if it wasn´t for Art, Pauls carreer would be nowhere near where it is today. Paul´s more talented, but Art´s voice made those songs and transcended Paul into superstardom.
Don´t be dissin Artie. |

 | I like the new album of standards, and I agree that without Art Paul would never have gotten to be the super star he is. I am a huge fan of Paul and his music, but I loved (and still Love) Simon and Garfunkel as well. |

 | Correct! Art is sickly sweet and needs to vanish. Did you ever see him in the cartoon Arthur, in the episode where buster baxter cam back, as a guitar playing moose? Very apt! |

 | Well, and I can not agree with you about the superstar thing.
If you can´t go back to the past, change some things, come back and look what is going on today, then how would you know?
What do you think about this statement: "Simons S&G history always limited his further development"

 | While I have never been an Art fan, I think it may be fair to say in his defence that a number of his (and Paul`s) contemporaries such as Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow are now turning to these standard classics, although with varying degrees of success. It shows there is a market for them.
Does he deserve success though? He left Paul a little high and dry when he started his acting career. I think I smart more from that betrayal than Paul does. On top of that his envy tainted comments about Graceland all those years ago add to contempt for him. At least Paul is able to stay an original artist.
Hell, I even think Art`s hit Bright Eyes was only as huge as it was because of those bloody rabbits.
Further, I recall a live album which was touted as the best of Art, and the majority of the songs seemed to be S&G classics.
Reading this back I`ve gone (way) off topic, but that`s the joy of these forums.
Take care everybody.

 | I was a big fan of Artie because of that song "about bloody rabbits" thought he was much nicer than that cynical singer of "50 ways" Ah the innocence of being 17!!
There would be a lot (inc Paul) who say that Paul left Artie rather than the other way around.
I agree with Bodo´s statement about the legacy of S&G, Paul could have had the same fan base as bob dylan. I´ve encouraged die hard dylan fans to listen to the PS songbook - They loved it!! Artie made PS songs too sweet.
I wouldn´t hold it against Art for not writing his own - look at Pavorotti..... but then again look at Westlife:) |
