 | This is a great review of Surprise. For anyone who dismissed Paul´s new album too quickly, I urge you to reconsider. It´s a magnificent album, and Paul continues to push his music in new directions. I wish it didn´t take him so long between albums, but he obviously spends a lot of time trying to find new ways of doing things. Anyway, here´s the review:

 | I hadn´t listen to the full album for quite a while, just the occ song popping up on the ipod. but i put it on the CD player in the last few days - and that reviewer is right - this is one mind blowing album - try reading while its on and you´ll find the phrases dragging you away from the page. Definitely not background music!! |

 | I felt the exact same thing. the first desappointment , and the will to make a sense out of it, to let it reach my emotions, as I could feel there WAS something there... it was worth the effort!on the first day I listened to it at least 10 times, then I suddently got it, and I realised Surprise is like maths: it´s not obvious at first sight, but once you understand what it´s about, you can´t believe you almost missed it! Paul Simon´s most moving album ever. |

 | Ever since the Rhythm Of The Saints, I think the albums are so complex that they take at least 3 listens before you get into them. However if you return to them after not hearing them for ages, the appeal is immediate. It is very a clever and sophisticated way of writing and I have never come accross this phenomenon in anyone else´s music.
There is a review on Amazon where the writer says he does not recomend the album because he didn´t like it when he listened to a few samples online. I think that pretty much says it all! |

 | I like the heading of one of the Amazon reviews: "Oh,Oh, attention span required". I think that says it all. It gets better the more you listen. I listen very frequently and Love it more with each listen. |

 | Same here Nancy. Although I loved it from the start...I had no doubts at all about this brilliant album. And as, I think it was Matthew, said, most of Paul´s albums take more than one listening too sometimes. |
