 | I just recieved my copy of the Paul Simon Studio recordings Boxed Set! It´s noticable drawback is that it´s missing "slip slidin´ away." It only has an acoustic demo of that song as a bonus on Still Crazy album.
How many others of you own this set and what do you think? |

 | I´ve got this box set Peter, since I only discovered Paul a little while before I got it and it seemed like an easy way to get all of his older albums. I personally Love it and it´s great having the extra tracks there too, but I can understand why people who have the original albums might think it´s not worth it to buy the box set. Most of the bonus tracks are demos which are interesting, but which I wouldn´t really listen to twice. That being said, there are some real gems there - Soft Parachutes and Let Me Live In Your City (original version of Something So Right) immediately come to mind. |

 | The reason "Slip Slidin" is "missing" Peter,is because it never appeared on one of the proper solo albums. It first surfaced on the Greatest Hits Etc.compilation package.
I have the "box set" as well, but in a roundabout way, buying each of the nine individually, many at marked down prices. Overall they are definitely worth having. Many of the bonus tracks are prime, particularly "Duncan" demo with different lyrics, altered versions of Me and Julio and Paranoia Blues plus the distinct improvement in sound quality over all the originals. |

 | Well, Stranded In A Limousine was included in the box set, so of course Slip Sliding should have been there too. After all it is a "studio recording". |

 | Is just my tone deafness or do the first few bars/phrases/chords of Slip sliding, put you in mind of the beginning of Train In The Distance? |

the price on amazon germany is incredible - 240 euros for 9 albums, that are around 27 euros for 1 CD !!! are they crazy??
i never bought it, I would buy a double or trippe cd with all demos and unreleased songs, even for a higher price than usual - but warner is just making money with us, selling us the same songs again and again. and paul plays the game with them too...
if I would have been paul then I would sell my cds and songs only private over my own website - that would bring him much more money (for even less sales) - and he always said he does not need the commercial success. Prince (tafkap) did that for many years and he said he was earning much more in that time - while selling only a few 100k albums

 | Well, it´s a difficult discussion in my opinion.
On the one hand, I think it´s OK to be wanting to remaster these masterpieces. Afterall, many of them were released on cd, when the digital quality was far from what it is now.
On the other hand, a lot of people really can´t hear the difference or don´t think it´s better (or whatever) and certainly won´t buy the albums again just for a minor quality difference. So that´s partly why they included demos and rarities on all the albums.
I certainly agree that this a dirty trick. By not making these unreleased tracks available on a seperate release they more or less admit that they are just there, so that all PS fans with completist tendancies will buy the albums. A shame.
Personally, I am (when it comes to certain artists, including Paul as the number 1 on that list :-) ) very much a completist, so I had to have this box set, and I might had considered buying it even without the extra material. Still, the official price is, as you say Bodo, unbelieveable, so I had to wait for a while. I finally got if off Ebay for just under $100 including postage from the US, which was more reasonable.
If any of you are looking for it, I suggest you do the same thing. (Bodo and I both ordered it from some private seller on amazon some time back for a VERY low price. It turned out it was "out of stock" though ;-) ). |

 | Actually, I was able to buy some of these re-leased CDs (bonus tracks included) separately . . . are they only available individually in North America? I think I ordered a few off of Amazon.com. |

 | Absolutely. If "stranded" is there, why is there no slip´slidin? Both were released as singles. |

 | I bought this set because I didn´t own any of the albums. I had a lot of the music (I´m not telling you how I got it!) but I wanted to own it. I hear a huge difference in the remastered versions, and it is a good one. I also ordered Suprise and The Paul Simon Songbook and they just came. |

 | Peter, it sounds like you have completed your collection very quickly - apart from the studio version of Slip Slidin´ Away.
I too bought the box set and I bought a new copy (still sealed) from eBay for about £40. I would not have paid the full price because I have all the CDs already.
Some of the extras are better than others. I think the ones on One-Trick Pony are my favourites - there is one caled "All Because of You" (or something) that is wonderful.
I like the Rhythm Of The Saints demos and the live tracks from the You´re The One DVD are interesting without the video because they are SO accurate. |

 | <<all PS fans with completist tendancies>>
Just read this! Sounds like me! I have about 7 copies of Graceland because I bought the tape, then the vinyl then the CD. Then I bought the enhanced one, replaced my broken tape with another tape and bought the CD as part of the remastered boxed set. Then I saw it on 8-track on eBay and bought that as well. Yes, 8-track! I cannot even play it.
That is not counting the five 7" singles, five 12" singles, CD single of Boy In The Bubble plus the African Concert video, Making of Graceland video and DVD plus a Japanese release of the African concert on CD!
I need help. |
