 | "I can´t stand the sixties. The forties and fifties, yes, but there´s nothing from the sixties I value."
Paul Simon slams the decade that made him a star.
***************************************
My opinion...Well just because it´s the decade that made him doesn´t mean he has to Love or have some kind of feelings for it. *shrugs* so so what....lol

 | There was the discussion under topic Paul`s scans (already on side four, very active times...), about art or not. Richard mentioned the enduring of art and songs. (Hermans Hermitīs or so).
If you would look at the single charts of the sixties, you`d be surprised how many songs - then hits - now forgotten.
We only remember the enduring ones like "Sitting at the dock of the bay" or "We lost that loving feeling" or Beatles, Stones, Dylan`s and Simon`s classics.
In fact there were no more one-hit wonders than in this decade, and the sound was much more uniform than later. Singles more important than albums, sound in mono...
I guess of the music I prefer there is 1 percent sixties, 70 percent 70`s and 80`s and the rest 90`s and 00`s.

 | I doubt that it is an accurate quote. This site brings up quotes from musicians and they are always either negativ or annoying like someone hates some other person and so on.
They quoted PS for several times in the last months and the quotes were sometimes 20 years Old, sometimes totally out of context but never positiv. |

 | Best to forget you read this "quote"...In any event this could have referred to the values, lifestyle, personal memories of childhood, family and friends, economy of the country etc...it might not necessarily have been a quote about music. One thing is for sure...the sixties, as far as I am concerned, were a lot better times to live in than today...both musically and lifestyle wise..without doubt! |

 | Well - the question is in what content did Paul say that?
Maybe they talked about politics ? Or about hair styles?.... |

 | ..smell of coal, wool sweaters, small cars, was what he loved about England in the 60s.
Most of the surrounding music scene was what he did not. "you had to be a moron NOT to have had a hit in the 60s" runs another recent quote. |

 | ..smell of coal, wool sweaters, small cars....aaahhhh and Autumn mornings kicking damp leaves around...or dry ones, depending on how damp it is...lol
Actually I Love Autumn....But I must agree on the ease of getting hits in the 60s, you only have to see how many one hit wonders there was..And people youīve never heard of today. |

 | Bear in mind the wealth of great musical talent in the 60s though....some of the greatest voices and enduring icons, of which Paul Simon is one.As far as "people you have never heard of today" that depends on what your interest is in the performers from the 60s.Anyway, it is best to backtrack into the past to re-discover the greatest music.....it has all been done before.....AND BETTER! |
