 | If you look at it the other way. It has to sell good, if it is art. So the more it sells, the better art it is???
So when I take a look at the topsellers in the charts, I have to chance my defintion of art...
I think it´s a mood point. I agree that there has to be some audience, but we will never agree upon how much audience there has to be, to be considered as art.

 | Just a funny headline of an article in the mid-seventies when Simon and Garfunkel`s individual abilities after their first albums were judged (I think after Still crazy and Breakaway):
IT´S PAUL, BUT IS IT ART? |

 | this would be a good way to link up another long standing discussion on the forum. Is Paul with Art more art than Paul on his own? :-) |

 | Without any discussion - Simon and Garfunkel is not any kind of art since their last album.
It´s just a reunion after reunion...nothing else - and you see, they have a big audience. |

 | Oh Bodo you poor sweet man.
For one very last time...
There is no audience for Surprise. Almost all of the people who bought Graceland or Rhythm Of The Saints or Still Crazy are not listening to this record. Mr Paul Simon has largely lost his audience. That is what it is about. He has lost the lifeblood of communication with the public who used to share his artistic vision.
You think this doesn´t matter.
I cordially and wholeheartedly disagree and wish you ein schönes Wochenende! |

 | Hello, very young, beautiful an intelligent dearest Rosemary again,
I think it is my duty to defend Bodo and Paul Simon now.
Surprise will sell about a million copies worldwide. And maybe you are right, mainly to new listeners.
What a compliment and great art! |

 | 800.000 is no audience?
Sorry if I disagree with you, together with 800.000 people and a few hundred thousand who downloaded it somewhere illgal.
Have a nice weekend. |

 | I`m not interested if other people think my kids are ugly (I`m the reason our kids are ugly!) ` I Love them what so ever.
I`m getting suspicious if a lot of people are saying a movie or book is great, like The Da Vinci Code ` most of the time it`s not a good sign.
I don`t care that records from Paul are not bestsellers ` I loved Hearts And Bones from the start and nothing can change that.
I don`t care that Simon and Garfunkel became a number one hit, because Tom Wilson put a terrible band behind Sound of Silence ` I like the song with only the guitar the best and I am glad that the commercial success from the past put Simon in a position to make records that he like.
And I try not to care when I see during a Paul Simon concert other visitors who are looking like they want to be somewhere else and who can not recognise a song in the first minute.
