A few years ago I heard a cover version of 50 Ways by a rap outfit called Playgroup. After a bit of searching I found it online. You can listen to it from the following link:

Bear with it as it takes a while to start - but the whole track is there. I am not a fan of rap music but I like this one - what does anyone else think?

That´s closer to reggae and hip-hop or R&B than rap, but certainly an inventive interpretation.

Yes, you are right it is more hip-hop I guess.

I have found a French cover as well but something has got lost in translation. There seem to be only 30 ways to leave your lover in this one:

I have just listen to both interpretations - thanks for those links.
I must admit I much prefer the Playgroup version than the French one (and I am French !)

Also, it is true. There are apparently only 30 ways to dump your (French) lover... maybe it is a cultural difference that prompted this freedom in translation
Are American lovers more difficult to dump ?

"30 façons de quitter une fille" was a hit at its time in France.
And if they have used "Trente" (30) and not "cinquante" (50) I think it´s only because it was sounding better :-)

At least the french arranger listened to Paul´s version very carefully - almost an exact copy. Not really bad, but boring.

The reaggie hip-hop version is a nice interpretation.

It´s because the French singer who sings that song is a Paul Simon´s fan :-)

Yeah, that Dub/Reggae version is fun, I like it.

Anyone got a copy?

I haven´t got a copy but I can remember seeing the album in the shops in Sydney when it was first released - you can buy it on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/redirect.html?link_code

The rapper/spoekn word artist Sage Francis does a take on this...it´s something a bit more vulgar...but they implement the same drum patters and everything. Its cool to see these guys at least have an interest though. I forget what he renamed the song
