Hi everyone,

Here´s an idea that has been on my mind for a while...

Three years ago I suggested on a Bruce Springsteen board that it was a fun idea if fans from all over the world got together to record a tribute CD (the Nebraska album excisted 20 years so there was something to celebrate). The idea was to have fans all over the world who worked (non-profit!!!) to make a tribute CD and guess what... it worked! Here´s the link of the result: http://www.nic.fi/~luckyman/nebraskarevisited/ (I recorded Highway Patrolman)

I´ve been a huge Paul Simon fan since I was seven or eight years Old (I´m 25 now) and he´s always been my no. 1 performer/songwriter, so I guess it´s clear what I want to suggest.

I think it would be great if some of us created a tribute CD that be only available to people like us.

To be very clear about this... The music would be non-profit based and accesable for everyone who´s interested in fan interpretations of Paul Simon music. In theory we could record 80 minutes totally so I want to know who´s up for it!!!

My pick would be Train In The Distance and American Tune... orrr.... Homeward Bound

Let me me know what you think.

Cheers,
Manus

Great idea - I´d Love to take part in such a project. Put me down for tamerine or the triangle as I am not very musical.

Train In The Distance? Do you know how difficult that is to sing? I was videotaping out of a train window while listening to Train in the Distance on headphones and singing along, and when I played it back I was so horribly and ridiculously off-key.

Anyway, cool idea, but pick some easier songs. ;)

Hi Lekornee,

Yes I´m sure about Train In The Distance. They key changes a few times so without the chords it sounds very strange.

By the way, I don´t expect us to be great musicians, and it´s ok to give an interpretation of the song (I don´t use a full band)

We also need someone who knows a thing or two about artwork.

Ok, so far we have:

Bluesmoke (Italy)- Something So Right, Some Folks´ Lives, Still Crazy, America (counts, right?)...lets do it.

Manus (The Netherlands) - Train In The Distance, American Tune, Homeward Bound

Mick (UK) - Song unknown

--------
I´m thinking that three songs a person is a bit much. one or two songs is better I think.

That was probably because you could not hear yourself as you were singing - that is why artists use monitors or earphones so they can hear their own voices against the crowd.

I missed out the quote in teh post above - "I was videotaping out of a train window while listening to Train In The Distance on headphones and singing along, and when I played it back I was so horribly and ridiculously off-key"

and my reply in itallics was to that quote. However that means that html works on this site
WOW

Some folks lives..., Silent Eyes and Bridge Over Troubled Water are very hard to sing, but Train In The Distance is almost the only song that I don´t have to transpose.

Wouldn´t it be nice to have a tracklist that is spread out over the whole career? Some S&G songs, some from that Eskimo-album, ROTS (which will be the hardest I think), Surpise, There Goes Rhymin´ Simon etc.

For those who are unexperienced with recording... What you need is a decent soundcard and a recording program. I use Cool edit pro.

Eskimo album LOL - can you say that anymore? Isn´t it Inuit or something?

I presume you mean ´Paul Simon´ or ´Mother And Child Reunion´ in some countries.

I learned to play The Coast some years ago...learned and unlearned.
It wasn´t that hard, and sounds good with only 1 guitar too.

LOL a friend of mine and I always used that term (eskimo) if we meant that album... The doggy style album would be very inapropriate (I know, misspelled)... but you know what I mean.

The Coast is excellent. Simon says that it´s easier to learn than unlearn (´cause we´ve past the point of no return) so it shouldn´t be a problem Bodo. Personally I like that song very much

Well, it is Gracelands 20years anniversary

So it would be really fun to have the complete Graceland album sung by fans.
But the songs aren´t that easy to record alone... ?
