aww thank you so much bonnie for such a lovely message, and for doing all of this for us all. yes it is a bit confusing having two nikki´s (i´m so surprised someone spells it the same way as me!).

i´m glad you like the card for paul, and i hope he does too. Paul and his music just mean so incredibly much to me and i still find myself wondering everyday ´what if i didn´t have a crazy science teacher in year 10 and had never found out about Paul Simon?´ anyway, i really hope that he gets all of our messages and reads through every one.

lol i don´t think you can translate ´that´s the way it is´ literally, but perhaps you were trying to say ´c´est la vie´?

p.s. sorry to break the illusion but my english is only better than your french because i´m australian rather than french (lol) i´m actually learning french at school and the wonderful french forum has kindly adopted me into their esoteric circle! (do come and say hi from time to time!)

Esoteric circle !!??? No, no, no.
You just need to speak French and Love Paul Simon.
That means 0,02 % of the world population ???? (lol)

´c´est la vie´ --- That was it! Thanks.

School and the French Forum teach you and you have taught me. There´s a great lesson there somewhere!

Just some housekeeping as I get ready to "wrap up" our birthday greetings. Want to make sure I´ve included everyone who intended to be included:

Kuno - I don´t recall getting anything from you... or anyone in Switzerland. Did you ever send anything?

Amber - Didn´t get anything from you either. Should I have?

Jamie - Did you send something?

Nancy - Should I be waiting for something from you?

(You can e-mail me privately if you want.)

Well... I really wanted a lot of people to participate, but I stopped short of going door-to-door and putting paper in front of them and pens in their hands. So, despite the theory (based on numbers of albums/CDS sold and tickets sold to PS concerts) that there are thousands or hundreds of thousands of PS fans worldwide and my personal theory that it would be easy to literally get hundreds (or even one hundred) cards, that was not the case. While there were some greetings which conveyed wishes from groups of people (i.e., a card and CD from some folks from the French Forum and a photo card from people from "Fan-Club of Czech Republic"), the number of individual greetings was -- at least, in my opinion -- surprisingly low. So, while the "bad" news is that it isn´t an overwhelming number, the "good" news is (also) that it isn´t an overwhelming number. Perhaps just the right number of messages for PS to sit and read and and take the senders´ wishes/thoughts/thanks to heart. It is obvious from the looks of some of the greetings that many people spent a lot of time, energy, thought on them. There were several beautiful expressions (in writing and in pictures). While the overall package wasn´t abundant in quantity, one of the things that really touched me was that they came from All Around The World. The USA, UK, and Canada were a tad more heavily represented, but there were greetings also from Italy, Hungary, Denmark, Belgium, Franch, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Sweeden, Ireland, Brazil, Netherlands, Australia, Israel, and Kuwait. That, itself, says something that "all the missing messages" can´t. So, perhaps that gives you an idea of what type of package Mr. Simon will be receiving courtesy of some of the posters/lurkers on this forum. Like his songs, it´s not about the numbers, the commercial value, or the amount spent/received, it´s about the heart that went into it, the warmth that it conveys, the individuality of each message. It´s about what it means to the sender and, we hope, what it will mean to the receiver. And, perhaps, a feeling of deeper connection that might not have existed before or without the communication.

To all who participated, you have my appreciation and, I hope, Mr. Simon´s as well. Take a moment to realize that what you did actually may make a difference. If those of you who contributed greetings hadn´t done so, there would be even fewer messages to pass along to him. Some people forget that when everyone says, "I can´t do this well, so I´ll wait for someone else to do it who can do it better," no one ends up doing it and it doesn´t get done.

Given the opportunity, I could go on and on, but I´ll stop now. I think I´m just "preaching to the choir" anyway, as likely only those who have already written are still reading this thread. So, again, my thanks and Congratulations to you -- congratulations for doing something nice for someone else and for possibly helping to "personalize" a bunch of faces in a crowd for someone who may just be seeing "strangers´ faces" at every performance. And, A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO BODO, for operating this website to serve as a place where people with a common interest can connect -- gather, discuss, put words into action (especially when "words ARE action"), and also make the world seem a bit smaller and full of friendly faces. Hey, isn´t it nice to know we all have friends in the USA, UK, Canada, Italy, Hungary, Denmark, Belgium, Franch, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, Sweeden, Ireland, Brazil, Netherlands, Australia, Israel, and Kuwait!

Thanks, Bodo!

Bonnie,
I mentioned this site and Bodo´s name when I met PS in Toledo this summer. I told him that this site was started by Bodo Malo from Austria and that people from all over the world come to "The Neck of My Guitar". He didn´t act like he was familiar with this site,he hesitated for a second, started to walk away, then he smiled and said, "I know where he got the name." I smiled back and replied, "I do, too." (Apologies to anyone who remembers me writing this in July)
Thanks, Bonnie...When Paul gets the BD package from his fans on here,he will remember that he was told about it this summer.
Thank you for putting all of our BD wishes together for our Paul....

He Bonnie, I think that is great - you got cards from really many different countries.
I never expected that you will get hundreds of cards... I am even not sure how many ´real/unique´ members (except the ~1100 people from the fan-database, but there are also many which never came back) this site really has. Many people only stay here for 1 minute, some lurk, some visit the site every day...it´s impossible to count. So I think you got a lot of replies.
I personaly had no idea what to write him, what hasn´t been said many times before. If I do something (which needs a lot of work and time) I need a feedback. I need to know if it every reaches Paul, if he did like it or not. Thats why I did not write him. (I wrote him before, I also have send a fax some years ago... but never got a feedback so I stopped that)
