 | Hello there people!!First of all I´d like to say hi. My name is Gary Stewart and I´ve been a huge fan of Simon since I was 12(I´m now 25!).I´ve seen him twice solo(London 2000+Edinburgh 2002)and with Art three times(NYC 2003,Manchester 2004(my favourite)+London 1004).I REALLY hope he comes to the UK this year!!Anyway, that´s the intro out of the way, let´s skip to the verse...
I read yesterday in the Sunday Express that, due to a postal strike in Britain in 1971,the figures for number of sales of albums in the shops, didn´t reach the files and so BOTW stayed number 1 for an extra 8 weeks.Had the post got to the compiler, the true number 1 for those weeks should have been George Harrison´s "All Things Must Pass"!!
Interesting,isn´t it?!
I must also add here that the newspaper shows a list of what the top 10 should have been for those weeks in 1971 and I´m happy to say that it would have included James Taylor´s "Sweet Baby James" at number 7... |

 | Hi Gary
So for 8 weeks the charts showed the exact same list every week.... and no one was wondering about that? Hm... |

 | The speculation is yours Bodo-I´m only rallying what the newspaper said. But yes,it seems strange to say... |

 | Hi Gary - nice to meet you, what part of the UK are you from? And how did you get into Paul Simon music when you were 12? My guess is it was your parents, right? My son is 24 and also a big fan (because of his parents!) We were at all of those concerts you mention, except the NYC one (lucky you!) Well, my son was only at the Edinburgh one.
Interesting about the 1971 charts - didn´t see that. If I remember correctly, James Taylor WAS number one some time in that year, with You´ve Got A Friend. Are you a fan of his too? I certainly am.
Sue. |

 | Hm, hard to believe.
Anyway, the two bestselling albums in the UK during the whole seventies were:
BOTW
S&G`s Greatest Hits |

 | Hey there Sue!!Great to hear from you!!I got into S+G through the definitve CD that my dad had and from there onwards I was hooked...
Great to hear that your son was at the Edinburgh concert-how good was that?! And the Mexican Wave beforehand ; )
I´m originally from Perth, Scotland but now live in Leeds,West Yorkshire.Where are you from?I really hope Simon comes this way later this year, don´t you?
If you have any unofficial recordings/bootlegs i´d be up for swapping what I have(icluding Edinburgh and Manchester S+G gigs : )
Oh and yes, I´m a big JT fan also, saw him 2 years ago at Edinburgh Castle again!! But seeing as this is a Simon site, I´d better not diverge...
Great to meet you and hope to talk to you again soon... |

 | Ha ha - I´d forgotten about the Mexican wave, great wasn´t it? We were at the Liverpool concert the night before, and everyone had been dancing, but do you remember it was forbidden in Edinburgh? Anyone who tried to dance was told to sit down by the security staff. But myself and my son got everyone around us to agree to get up, I think for You Can Call Me Al, and once we all got up that was it - there were too many of us, and the staff couldn´t get us to sit down! PS seemed much happier that we were dancing too.
I live in Cheshire - if you search the fan base, you should find my email address - drop me a line. I couldn´t find you on there.
That Edinburgh JT concert was the same date as the PS one a year earlier, did you realise? We saw him on that tour, but not in Edinburgh. I think it was at the NEC in Birmingham. It was 2003, not 2004, wasn´t it? |

 | Hey there Sue.I´m pretty certain JT was 2004, as I remember it being a good year of gigs for me-S+G,James Taylor-think I went to see Damien rice that year also...I know that JT played the UK in 2003, as I went to see him in Sheffield that year, maybe thats the tour you´re thinking of-Gadd was on drumkit, as opposed to Harvey Mason at Edinburgh...
I´m realtively new to getting details up on this site, so I will create a database shortly-couldn´t find your email in your entry : (
Talk to you soon : ) |

 | Yes, Gary, I stand corrected - it was 2004! We saw him in Liverpool at the Summer Pops - I have all the tickets on my noticeboard in front of the PC - just put my reading glasses on, and now I can see the date, 20th July 2004!
Regarding the data-base, I tried to update it yesterday and put my email address on there, saved it, but now it´s not there - BODO did I do something wrong? |

Nearly the same as me! I saw him in 1991 (Birmingham), 2000 (London), 2002 (Liverpool), 2003 (New Jersey), 2004 (London) I also saw Art in 2002 (Sydney) and 2006 (Birmingham)
Sad or what?! |

 | Not at all!! I wish I could have saw him in 1991, being a percussionist/drummer myself, the BATRT tour would have been extra special!!
