Callista, thank you for your review. I really liked it very much and I´m also disappointed for what you said about people that don´t know Surprise new songs. Anyway thank you very much for sharing with us!

Sadly enough, my husband forgot to pack the camera..( we have already had a nice 24 hour argument on this same subject...) and we only discovered it once the concert began so no I do not have any pictures. As the elderly Rose said about Jack on the movie Titanic, " He exist only in my memory now..."
Please share some of your pictures with us! I would Love to see some of them!! :)

As it could be a while before I get to comment on this latest tour, I´ll just mention I was at a concert of my 3rd favourite New Yorker, (Woody Allenbeing 2nd) Billy Joel, last night. It was a brillient performance and BJ is a great entertainer. I´m pretty sure that his patter was not rehearsed as it related very specificly to Dublin/Ireland. Very refreshing as the last concert i was at I knew the jokes by heart thanks to this site.
Also he threw in a few songs other than his own - did a great inpersonation of Bruce Springsteen - and played the melody of a couple of well known Irish songs which meant the audience were singing to him for a change. this was an all seating venue -had a seating capacity of over 80,000 of which 45000 were filled. I was reasonably near the front. By half way through most people were up dancing, but he kept all his fast songs for the 2nd half, this didn´t seem to bother any one at all. He sang for 2 hours including a 20 minute encore, by which time he was fairly croaky!!
Of course it was nothing compared to a Paul Simon concert but it´ll keep me going til the Euopean tour:-)

Scatty, I Love Billy Joel as well! I didn´t even know he was touring!!!! You are so lucky to have seen him! I know this is a Paul Simon site, but seeing as they are best friends....kind of,.. do you think you can post a setlist from his concert? I would love to know what he sang!!!
Thanks!

Hi Callista - great review! I also could kick myself for not saying anything to Mark Stweart when he was walking around! I was one of the first few in the amphitheater, and watched him walk around right in front of me!

My section of the audience was AWFUL (Sec. 3 Row J). The guys in front of me talked thru the whole show, the guy next to me was so drunk and he was yelling out the wrong words at the top of his lungs, the people diagonally in front of me were arguing about their seats with the people next to them, and the people behind me would complain every time Paul sang a newer song. Seemed like most of the crowd didn´t even know he had a new album out - or even didn´t know YTO or anything but the Old S&G stuff and stuff from Graceland. I was very disappointed at that...especially since Surprise is such a great album! Anyone else have a bad experience with their neighbors, or was it just me?

Jasmine, I had a lot of Europen people around me who had flown in for this concert, so it was pretty cool. We were able to talk a lot about Paul´s music from a European perspective.
The only real problems ( other than a lack of enthusiasm about Surprise) was the constant smell of pot flowing through the air, and the three people sitting directly in fron of me to my left.
Two really tall pretty girls came in riding on the arms of one man who was in the middle. The two girls had on home made tank tops that read, " I LOVE PAUL!" Then it showed a picture of the man they were with in the middle.
Meanwhile, the man was wearing a shirt that read, "I AM PAUL!!"
I thought that the three shirts were pretty inventive! The problem came with the fact that there were three pretty elderly people in back of them who couldn´t really stand up, and the three of them kept standing up and dancing. The people behind them could´t see Paul at all and kept trying to tell them so, but they were so drunk ( I know because I treid to talk to them as well because I felt bad for the older people) they wouldn´t listen. I told them to tell one of the ushers but they didn´t want trouble. They had flown from Germany for this concert, so I felt it was unfair.
I am sorry that your concert experience was so bad. But remember, at least you were there!

Callista - you´re absolutely right, and I am a million percent thankful that I was there. I got my first PS (actually S&G) album 30 years ago, and have been in Love with him/his music ever since. If I could afford to quit my job and be a groupie, belive me, I would. Gotta be realistic though - with Southern Cal home prices, I need to work! :)

Love the shirts you talked about - very creative! I also had elderly people in my row that I felt sorry for because of the people in front of them. The crowd at S&G 3 years ago was nothing like this! I wish Paul could do a concert just for his true fans - maybe in order to buy a ticket, you´d have to pass a test or something. :)
