Well,

I must really that it is the most beautiful Love song I´ve ever heard.

Kathy´s Song is about his girlfriend Kathy Chitty from England, correct ?

Does someone of you know if he is still in contact with, what she is doing now ?

I´m just a little bit curious now...

Michael

he´s not singin Bridge alone now. And Paul has IMO much more lead-voice songs (where Artie´s voice is more in the background and just sings harmonies)

I also think Paul doesn´t want to sing this song, in 1993 this was one of the big fights. Art always wants to sing this song, Paul hates this song. This time Paul is doing everything so that the 2 of them don´t argue. (IMO Paul has lost in nearly all points...but who knows)
So he maybe said, ok we do this song, but it´s your solo. And I can understand why Paul doesn´t like this song - would you like a song or poem you have written for your long gone girlfriend, let´s say at the age of 13 (artistically Paul developed this age to now) and play this song to an audience of 20.000 people again and again. Uh, I´m sure I would hate that song *g*

Bodo is right even though I find it childish to hate that song.

Anyway, Kathleen (as most fans know ) is mentioned in
Kathy´s Song, America, and Homeward Bound
Paul himself spoke about it
in 1986, with David Hepworth: "To be 22 years
Old and to have your girlfriend on your album cover. That was -it-!"

Note: just two years before (1963) Bob Dylan released his album "The Freewheelin´ Bob Dylan." with
Suze Rotolo, who inspired him on the cover.

They met at the very first coffeehouse Paul played when he arrived in
England in 1964. She was three years younger than him. Paul also
referred to her in the version of A Simple Desultory Phillipic as the "friendly haiku" on account of the fact she rarely spoke.

They broke up in 1965, right about the time The Sound Of Silence became
a big hit. Some accounts have it that Kathy wanted no part of the
success and fame that awaited Paul.

Paul didn´t hear from Kathy again until May 1991 when he was touring
England with Born At The Right Time and, to his delight, received a
letter from her. The British press jumped on the story....and started digging...they found
her married with three children and living in a remote village in the
Welsh mountains, working part-time at a technical college. She wasn´t,
however, interested in talking to the press.

I think we should appreciate that!

IMO, Paul is the best performer of Kathy´s Song; i Love the live version of the Greatest hits 1972.

Just to set the record straight Bodo
I am not intending that any of these information is mine.

People like Christian Roth(Medialab.chalmers) Gerard Eastwood, Rich Kent (to mention a few) and yourself are doing a great job....you all have the credits...and I am very grateful for that!!

Even though ´´the Paul Simon faq´´ does have an amazing source of material,
I found this information on one of the newsgroups:alt.music.paul simon

Does it matter how much older he was than her? All that matters is she inspired him to write quite a few wonderful songs:) Hooray for Kathy!

No, it doens´t, I was just pointing out that that´s was what I read.
I Love the persona of Kathy, she has captured the imagination of many Paul fans.

Yes, I understand. I wonder if she regrets not staying with Paul now . . .

If I were her I would!

Not that I´m in Love with Paul (Or Art for that matter), I kind of view him as father/uncle figure to me in my life really.

I don´t think she regret´s it. She knewed that Paul will become a famous musician but she didn´t want this life - And at least I don´t think that they will stay together today... Paul is married now for the 3th time ;-)

And you can´t discuss about Love and feelings : maybe she was not in love enough to bare that not so classical life with him ! Otherwise, she would have stayed...
