Hi all

I just listened to the bootleg of Arties show in Amsterdam, couple of weeks ago.
I noticed two things:

More than half of the songs are Paul Simon songs...(American Tune, Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair, The Boxer, For Emily, El Condor Pasa, Kathy´s Song, Mrs Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Cecilia, Sound Of Silence)
so maybe some of you "Non Artie-Fans" could be interested in his solo shows too.

I like Art, his personality and his voice...but...it´s SO pathetic that he brings the same jokes for more than ten years now ! I mean: word by word !!
(The funny thing with "Garfunkel and Simon - but he convinced me that it should be alphabetically". And the change form "whoa whoa whoa" to "whew whew whew" in Mrs Robinson.

I mean, they are funny jokes, but don´t Artie know that most of his fans probably do follow his career for more than just one tour ? I think he should be able to come up with more than just two funny jokes in a decade ! The way he tell these stories, as if they just came into his mind right now....it´s just pathetic if you know he tells them for more than ten years WORD BY WORD !

Also in this view, I prefer our Paul, who hardly speaks at all, but when, it´s honest and funny in a more intellectual way.

Beside that, I honestly think that Arties voice still sounds great. Almost better than on the Old Friends tour I think.

I was at two of his european shows, and he did say the EXACT same jokes. but! but but but! he did also say other things. the first show I was at, was a very intimate arena - about 300 or 400 people, and there he really interacted with the audience and I got the feeling that he has a very nice personality.
the second show was in a much bigger arena, and there he also tried to interact with the audience. He told the same jokes (in the same way) but again, added something extra that he felt like saying at the spot.

and I think he is a good preformer. I got the feeling that he was singing only for me, and when I spoke to my friends after the show, they had the exact same feeling...

Exactly Emilie! I attended the last show Emilie was talking about. It really felt like he was singing for me. And Art said other things, things that COULD NOT be thought about right until he said it. So, he does tell the same jokes. But, but, but, but, but!! I guess most people who were at this concert didn´t attend others before. Because there were many young or very young people.

And I must agree: I find his voice almost better than on the OF tour.

to me it seems like art is very obsessed with his simon and garfunkel part of his career, to me it seems like he can´t let go, i don´t kno, ithink artie just wishes paul would call him up one day and say, lets back to gether..arts reply" "ok Paul, glad you came to your senses!", haha ithought that was funny...poor art, The Only Living Boy In New York.

And I Love the way Art tells everybody that he is wearing a hairpiece. Doesn´t take himself too seriously. Very funny. And he disses George W Bush, which has to be good thing. He smiles a lot too, which is nice. But I guess we shouldn´t turn this into an Artie appreciation thread lest we incurr the wrath of the PS soloists!

it was just before American Tune...something about apologizing for Bush. and something about the way USA have gone off track - which that song symbolized.

Robinson-

I think that he plays those songs because that is what the people want to hear. Art has a can sing any song like no one else, but few go to his shows to hear him sing What a Wonderful World. The fans want to hear Simon and Garfunkel songs, and he wants to sing them. It´s a perfect combo.

very good thank you, you have completely changed my opinion, I do like Art tho, I sometimes wish i had his hair AND his voice, haha, but my girlfriend likes mine already. haha i also wish i could sing like him, it just seems so easy for both Paul and Artie

I went to a show in Birmingham in June and he said some of the same things but there was a lot of new comments.

He spoke about how Paul had encouraged him to sing The Boxer and he spoke about the Old Friends tour.

He also complained about people using flash bulbs - I presume he meant digital cameras and camera-phones!

Then he spoke about an album he released and joked that he should call it a CD because ´album´ is dated.

He also read a poem (which didn´t rhyme and had no meter) then proceeded to sing a song which was exactly like the poem with someone playing the guitar in the background ;)

So I think he mixed it up a bit!

yeah he is. so far, all we know is: this summer...well...this summer is NOW! But I think he´ll do a CD of Old standards. And I think one of them will be ´And so it goes´ by Billy Joel. he sang it at the german shows.

And about the poem. it´s from Stillwater - his prose collection. when he read it in Munich some guys started talking and he was like: oh, poetry is a dangerous thing - should have known. stupid me.
u can read most of them on his website. and no - they DON´T rhyme!

i like poetry that is free from rhyming. I Love to listen to art sing songs at his concerts, becuase he only sings his harmonies, and then i can sing pual, so i can pretend that i am paul, haha yea i kno, creepy but fun...and don´t any of you tell me you have never tried!!! hahahaha
