That comment on the CBS Sunday Morning Show was just Paul´s self-deprecating humor. How would it have sounded if he had said "well, or course, I am the voice of a generation-what else would I be!" It is hard to make a response to that that doesn´t make him sound very egotistical.

The guy who jumped on the stage at Central Park was enraged that Paul had the audacity to talk about John Lennon.

How can that be, when the song was unreleased and new to the audicence? How could that guy possibly know, that Paul would sing about John Lennon and be there at exact that moment?

Well exactly it was a purely spontaneous act. I mentioned it because, when the incident was reported in the british press the day after, the intruder was reported to have said, words to the effect of ...how dare you talk about John Lennon like that. Which i clearly remember thinking extremely bizarre,as the song, though multi -layered, is actually an affectionate tribute to someone Paul long admired.

Paul Simon started off as a kid wanted to have fun and get girls by singing songs. Now he is pleased if people are still listening to his music. What he never set out to be was some sort of spokesman for his generation or anyone elses.
