A lot of the reviews have read have been going on about how much the setlist has included Graceland songs on Paul´s recent tour.

They all say that he has chosen to do this because he considers it his best stuff and it´s a bit Old now.

I think that the inclusion of the Graceland material, especially Gumboots, is to mark the 20th anniversary of the album´s release. Afterall Gumboots was the song that made Paul go to S. Africa in the first place.

It´s not the first time he´s done something like this as he played Johnny Ace in 2000 at the 20th anniversary of John Lennon´s death.

I think that a lot of the reviewers/critics are a bit stupid not to have noticed the link/reason.

What does everyone else think?

I hadn´t made the connection with the setlist but I was wondering whether we will get a 20th Anniversary Edition of Graceland. At 10 years there was the one with the interactive stuff on.

Apparently there is going to be a 2-disc set but what will be on the second disc is anyones guess.

Probably live material I guess.

I have mentioned the 20th anniversary as a possible reason in a previous thread. I also expressed the hope that by the time the tour comes to Europe (in 2007) that we´ll get more of Surprise and other non Graceland songs - not that i mind what songs he sings:-)

I would just add that the emphasis on the Graceland songs seems a little weird to me (not Paul´s, the reviewers´). I mean, he´s been playing TBITB, Call Me Al, Diamonds, TWYM and Graceland on each tour since 2000; only TWYM was not performed before (aside from a handful of Louisiana occasions). Yes, Gumboots is a Surprise choice, but it works tremendously well and really suits this size band. Yes, because there are fewer songs and because there are new songs the share of songs coming from Graceland has increased. That said, I think some folks are making a mountain out of a molehill. After all, it´s the 40th anniversary of SOS becoming a hit, and he´s not playing that.

An educated guess I suppose, I was just going on the OFT tour which was in the States for the summer of 03 til the spring of 04 and then came to Europe for the Summer 04.
Anyways Surprise sold better in europe esp in ireland so we deserve it. And if you say something long and hard enough it comes true.

I don´t know cities and dates...but PS will be touring Europe in 2006.....That´s the word I got...not from PS himself...but from someone very close to him on this tour.....It does make sense that he would keep the band together and just continue the tour to Europe....But I think it will be after the kids are back in school......

To get back to the Graceland topic, I am curious about this 2 disc set for the fall.

First of all, I am disapointed, because I thought that the remaster released in 2004 would be the definitive edition, but how could have been so naive ?

The extras on this one was after all quite disapointing. This unrelased version of Diamonds sounds like if they made up one by eliminating all instrument except bass and voices (you could hear sounds from other instruments when you hear it loud through headsets).

But for the upcoming 2-disc set, my dream would be to have on a second disc the original songs that Simon have fallen in Love with. You know, the original Gumboots. To see how it was reworked, etc. But I doubt my dream will come true since I doubt that Simon would accept such a thing.

It is probably going to be Graceland on disc 1 and Live in concert in LA 1987 on disc 2. LOL !

For the Graceland emphasis for the current tour, I don´t have any clue why. Maybe all realized that vast majority of people have not bought any of his last 3 albums, so people come to see him for the hits, right. And everybody is pleased by Graceland...
