 | It´s kind of strange, well no it´s not because he was so quiet and kept himself to himself, but I thought he´d already died about 10 or so years ago. It´s terribly sad.
My thoughts and blessings go out to his family and friends.
I hope your next life is as special as this one was Syd... |

 | To make a connection to Paul Simon: as Simon told in the Holland-Show in the UK: he and David Gilmour, who was born in 1947, met in 1964 at "some debutant" party in Oxford. Holland said: "so you could have been a member of Pink Floyd", Simon answered, "or he could be Simon and Gilmour". Gilmour was 17 then.
Barret has been excluded out of Pink Floyd in 1968 because of his drug-problems, but he gave the band the "electronic/psychedelyc" direction.
They had their first success in 1970 without him with the album "Atom heart mother".
Then became super-stars with their next three albums.
Gilmour now is, together with Nick Mason, the owner of the band`s name; Roger Waters, composer of the album "The Wall", is excluded too since 1985. Gilmours advantage is, that he is a composer too and has this distinctive voice, heard on almost all of their famous tracks. |

 | What is the point of this story?
Drug problems are not solved if you are excluded out of a group!
To whom it may concern... |

 | "...he and David Gilmour, who was born in 1947."
Personally I thought Paul was born in 1941...Although 47 would have been nicer :-) |

 | Klausi is talking about David Gilmour, he was born in 1947...
Another cool deadpan answer from Paul, "It could have been Simon and Gilmour"...;-) |

 | Thank you Ans for this clarification.
For me Pink Floyd`s contribution to the development of popular music was tremendous. 10-minutes-tracks without Hit-singles were unbelievable in the sixties.
They were one reason that "Beat-music" didn´t have the same sad end as Rock and Roll had in the early sixties. The album "Dark side of the moon" (1973) still sells about 5.000 copies per week.
Another reason of course is Paul Simon. And unlike Pink Floyd, who did not create any new sounds since about 1979`s "The Wall", Simon did, until now. |
