 | Just to clarify - the decision to honour PS with the award was made maybe a day or two max before Paul´s show, which actually has little to do, I would imagine, with Paul´s reluctance to interrupt his show to accept an award (remind me again how that wouldn´t have been really awkward...). Also, I´m not quite sure what difference it makes if he was/would have been aware of the tribute - it wouldn´t have changed his plans. What, exactly, is the big deal? The only people who seem to be miffed are the journalists who missed the last-minute backstage award presentation because they were filing stories - certainly not a big deal...
Last, you said he looked "clueless" at his show; he didn´t seem clueless - he seemed, well, appreciative and funny.
He made another funny remark, introducing Duncan:
"This is a song from my first solo album... I wish I had said something more clever. <long pause> This a song from the album I recorded... first."

 | LOL !
I think the clarification about the fact that the award being decided one or two days before the show is interesting. Thanks Joey.
I also acknowledge the fact that the tribute was decided after Simon has made his tour plans. I was not expecting him to move this concert to be in MTL.
But on the other hand, I think it seems safe to see that there was a miscommunication somewhere on his side and his team about the tribute thing. Maybe OK Management should logged on Bodo´s site or "Lasers in the Jungle" more often ?
Also, at the concert, maybe Simon should have said something like "thank you for the wonderful tribute yesterday folks. I was unable to be here because I had a show in the state of NY, but thank you anyway and thanks to the incredible performers".
Everybody would have had understood and applauded.
My point is it was just a big turnoff to see PS saying that he was not aware of the tribute until July 5 and see that the FIJM put such a big carpet for him. Maybe they did too much.
My God ! There was even a big sign on the esplanade de la Place des Arts saying "Les sons du silence" !!
But yeah, he delivered a very good show and I was mentionning, not very important if you compare with what´s going on in Darfur... | | | | Joey Jul-13-2006, 16:35 GMT

 | Yeah - I think he was just, you know, joking around (La Presse said he was being all New Yorky). Anyway, the festival decided, again, on Le Son des Silences (The Sounds Of Silence) as the sort of "them," with a lovely accompanying image, for the festival before Simon was booked. Seriously, the stars were aligned. | | | | |
