It must be so hard being the kid of a famous person. This is what I just read on the dreamerofmusic site:

´Paul Simon took down his teenage son´s MySpace internet profile following concerns over web child predators. The singer´s 13-year-Old son Adrian is an aspiring singer/songwriter and started up his own page to debut his music online. Simon says, "Our 13-year-old son is totally into music. He plays guitars and drums and he´s been writing songs since he was six. He had a MySpace site for a while, but we took it off. The internet is a dangerous place for young kids because of the predators." ´

i hope it wasn´t just because of the fact that we were talking about it on this forum.

Predator?

I saw that movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but
it does not much remind me off us. But I think I can not translate that right - "web child predator".

Do you remember when Adrians band-partner wrote a few postings here ? Bodo deleted the thread upon his request. I always thought we missed a chance ! We (Bodo) should have say: "ok, here´s the deal: we delete the thread, but on the other hand, you have to tell Adrian that he should tell his dad to do JUST ONE posting here !"
We almost had a connection to Paul and we missed the chance :o(. How nice would it be to have a posting here from the master himself :o)

Don´t get me wrong, this was just a thought of mine, and I hope you understand (my english is not good enough to explain perfectly). Of course, Bodo did the right thing.

PS: I cannot translate "web child predator" too... what does it mean ?

I researched a little bit - I think it means people who search for sexual contact to children over the internet.

This does not have to do anything with our posting about the famous boy, it is a common problem on myspace.

BTW: the link we found was not even on myspace.
But now it get´s curious, the site on myspace.com does still exist! (so you really wonder what Paul might be talking about ...) I´ll not post the link, you can find it easely.

The site someone of us found was on purevolume.com

I have to admit this sounds very very strange to me.

The site on purevolume is off for a while. Maybe they got the adress wrong...

By the way: If that quote is as correct as the others that came from the same source, than I don´t wonder about anything. They seem to search for "catching" themes that provoke. They had another Paul quote concerning the Rolling Stones and one on Simon & Garfunkel that were ether totally out of context or 20 years Old.

So, this has nothing to do with lopside up Ans?
I did not know he had a profile there too... in general I think these profiles are idiotic.

AFIAK he had profiles on both, but myspace belongs to Jesse who is much older. Lopside up disappeared soon after Jesse asked you to remove the thread, I guess Paul & Edie were concerned about both sites which is very understandable concerning Adrian´s age.

I think it is great that Paul and Edie are protective. It is a scary world out there sometimes.

I watched all those Datelines "To Catch a Predator" and it was insane. There were freakin teachers, and rabbis and paramedics, and so on who were talking to these kids and trying to meet them on myspace. I don´t think its just myspace though...there are a lot of other sites out there too.

I think it was a smart move as well. Did anyone look at the comments and photos he was receiving? Some very inappropriate language being used as well. And, yes, Bodo, your definition of the meaning of the term "child predator" is correct. We need to protect all children. Kudos to Adrian´s parents for being so grounded and involved that they realize he still needs protecting. The technology we have can be a great thing, but it can be a dangerous one as well.

Yeh, I saw some of those myself Bonie and Paul & Edie came to mind. I kept thinking, I wonder if they´ve seen these.

I don´t think it helped that Adrian put himself down as 19 and not 13. Even Jesse did the same and he maybe older than Adrian, but I wouldn´;t say he was more than 14 or 15.

Yep, Paul and Edie did the right thing.

I didn´t catch any of the comments on Adrian´s site, but the ones that I do see there are pretty crazy. Its good that Paul and Edie are so in the loop when it comes to these things.

Micky,
You may be right, but I think Adrian put himself as "99," which didn´t help the situation. I think Jesse is the one who put himself as 19. You and I had very similar (perhaps identical) thoughts. I was actually relieved to see the site removed. It probably didn´t feel like it to Adrian, but from afar I felt I was witnessing a parental hug.

Hey eveyone,
Sorry that I have not been here for a while, but things happen..
I saw Adrian´s site on MySpace, and I am so glad that Paul took it down. in fact, I was getting pretty pretty upset that he did not take it down sooner. If you read what some of his "friends" posted on that site, you would be shocked. Please remember that "friends" on MySpace, means anyone on this planet who simply joins the site. Anyone can write anything they chose. Having looked into his site for Lopside Up, you just could not believe what some of these people were writing. I am sooooo glad that Paul and Edie woke up and did something about it.
I have two kids ages 11 and 9, there is no way in hell I will EVER allow them to enter MySpace.
Way to go Paul and Edie!!!!!
