Nikki and Raumo,
Thanks for your "thumbs up" to the idea. I´m pretty sure I´m going to go ahead with the idea - at least asking for videos from people. If there is "enough" response(whatever seems like a good number of greetings and representatives of people from various countries across the world), I´ll put the messages onto a DVD and send it on its way.
My tentative timeframe:
July & August - gather messages
September - put DVD together
end of September/beginning of October - see if I can get it into Paul Simon´s hands
I´ll be happy to provide updates of how many videos I´ve received and from where (which countries) along the way. Meanwhile, anyone wanting to send in his/her "clips" is welcome to do it whenever (by beginning of September, please. Send them through e-mail to: [email protected]

Bonnie, I think that the best would be :
1) to have what Nikki proposes (we can simply pick out whatever is most personal to us about paul´s music...etc : see her post)
2) to indicate first name, (year of birth ?), country as subtitle (proposed by I don´t remember who, see above..)
3) to work very hard (you, with a good software) in order to have a good and non boring "product"

I saw that you just translated your first idea ("my name is...I´m from.." etc) to our forum (french) and the result is : not enough enthusiasm...

Hi!

Of course I´d like to make a short movie to congratulate Paul. I agree that the movies must become very short and that they should variate.

Maybe it is funny if everybody, when they finished their little "story", to say Happy Birthday in their own language. For me it would become for example "Een prettige verjaardag!"

Then you have at least one point where our videos will variate :-)!

Does anybody know if Nikon Coolpix 5900 (using it as little videocamera) can be enough for this work?

lol i´m just posting on this thread cos it´s kind of drifted off to the 4th page, and i still think it´s a really good idea - so how is it all coming along? are we going to go through with this? is it feasible? if so, then we need to do some planning fast - october isn´t that far away.

I´m planning to make the DVD. Whoever wants to be part of it is welcome. As a friend of mine says, "The bus is leaving, so you might as well hop on and take a ride."

Throughout July and August, I plan to accept the messages. In September, put it together. End of September, beginning of October - somehow get it into Paul Simon´s hands. I think it´s important to do because I think it will have meaning for him. And, well, to quote him on his "Nightline" interview: "If I´m wrong, well, okay then, I´m wrong." No harm done and very little time wasted except primarily my own, which I´m willing to risk.

So ----- all interested parties are welcome (and encouraged) to send their video clips to:

I´m not 100% sure what types of files I can use, but figure there must be some tool to convert whatever anyone sends. Go ahead and send it. I feel certain I can figure out how to make the different clips in different formats all work together. If not, I´ll have your e-mail (from when you send me the clip) and I´ll let you know.
