 | Bonnie, I think your idea is great. If you really try to do that, you should contact other language forums (like the french one where I come from).
The only thing is you will get a lot of little videos saying more or less the same thing : how to be not too boring ? You will have to make a very good editing to
piece a jigsaw together.
I would Love to see the result ! once again, good idea ! |

 | Hello
I think the idea would be very nice, you only need a good way to present this DVD to Paul. My suggestion would be to give it to him personaly after a concert. Thats maybe the best chance that he is really interested in watching it then.
You also should look that the DVD is not too long (max 10 minutes) and every one says another sentence...something funny maybe. People should not say their name or country, that get´s very boring after 5 personsn (instead you could make subtitles with that info)
A happy birthday DVD with 100 people saying just :"Happy Birthday" would only consume a lot of Paul´s time I guess ;-)
Just some suggestions from me. |

 | But just how many people here have the ability to record something for a DVD? I would guess not that many. |

 | well, they could record an audio file of themself saying something and include a still photo. I think perhaps it could be included in the dvd like that?
btw, many (still)digital cameras come with the option to make a mini video. |

 | Like Raumo said - many people have a digital camera to make small movies. The quality is not that good I know...but I think it will be good enough for some short messages. |

 | Bodo -
I like the idea of putting the country names in captions. That would work well. I think the fact that people from many countries are coming together in unison to send him greetings is part of what is so touching. Whether people say the country name or it is in caption, either will work.
Personally, I´d rather not tell people what to say, but rather just let people say what´s on their minds and in their hearts. I think people will have more to say than "Happy Birthday" -- like "Thanks for all your music" and "I Love so many of your songs, but especially _______ does something for me." "Hearing _________ always makes me think of ________." Whatever people feel like saying. I´d be happy to
Mapa, I didn´t realize the different language forums had different threads. My mistake, so thanks for suggesting this. Somehow, I figured "through the magic of technology" there were various language forums all with the same comments, but appearing in different translations. Thanks for mentioning it. My problem: if I type it in English, how will I be able to determine the responses as I don´t know the other languages? I think having people speak in various languages on the DVD would be really quite wonderful. Illustrates what Paul Simon has said about music being a transcending the spoken language barriers.
Bodo, I would be happy to send a copy of the finished DVD to you to place somewhere on your website if you want. I´m not really sure how to do that. But first I still want to find out (a) if there are enough people willing to send in short clips for the DVD and (b) the specificis of how to get the DVD clips. Micky suggested the webcams which I imagine make files which can be e-mailed. Does that seem a good way? (Talking out loud to myself and to anyone else.) BTW Micky, thanks for being so positive. For awhile it looked like just the 2 of us ... and I felt like I was in good company. |

 | To make a DVD out of all these different clips you need some good software Bonnie.
People will email you all their digital camera clips in different video formats, and they all need to be encoded in MPG4 format. (Tmpgenc will do that, if you can play the files at least)
To make a DVD out of that you will need another software, named ´Tmpgenc DVD author´. |

 | i think this is a fantastic idea bonnie. if we don´t want it to be repetitive, we can simply pick out whatever is most personal to us about paul´s music. I´m sure many of us have a particular song or line which really means something special for whatever personal reason, or a moment in which paul´s music has really brought us comfort or joy. so things like that would make it a lot more interesting. |

 | Nikki - I think that would be great!
Bodo - Thanks for the help! I have just the basic Windows Movie Maker and something called AverMedia DVD EZ Maker. I really don´t know what the file extensions are. I´ll look into what you mentioned. I assume such files can easily be sent via e-mail. Please correct me if I´m wrong on this. I appreciate all these constructive suggestions. |

 | For the diferent language forums, I think it would be well to find a representative from each language to be the "go between". some one who is fluent in english who can explain to everyone on one of the other forums and then get back here with a run down of the answers, and how many are interested...

 | There is already a representative for every language - at least someone who is a super-user and has more rights to manage the forum. |

 | Bodo, how do I ask each representative to convey the message? (Or did I just ask?) |
