 | 1. Benedictus
2. Somewhere They Canīt Find Me
3. tie between Silent Night and Patterns
4. Voices of Old People (how is this even considered a song?!)
5. Why Donīt You Write Me
6. Congratulations
7. Learn How To Fall
8. Night Game
9. Oh, Marion
10. Allergies and Cars Are Cars. I canīt choose.
11. Gumboots
12. Further To Fly
13. Quality
14. Pigs, Sheep and Wolves
15. I Donīt Believe (The beginning and end is good, but the middle SUCKS!)
As much as I Love the man, there are DEFINITELY a few stinkers on at least H&B, OTP and SCAATY. And on Surprise (which I love, for the record), the whole album would be better if we got rid of Enoīs "Sonic Landscape" or whatever he calls it. Peace!

 | This is surely a weird thread. One thing is to find out that you donīt have the same favourite song as everybody else. Thatīs to be expected. Another thing is to find out that some of the songs you like best are considered to be some of the worst by other people.
Thatīs when astonishment (or even anger :-) ) comes into the picture.
I will not participate in this, but in stead make my own
TOP FIVE LIST OF SONGS THAT ARE MENTIONED IN THIS THREAD BUT SHOULDNīT BE:
1. The Cool, Cool River (Klausi!!?! - I thought you were better than this. There is also one person that have voted for this one in the poll. Three words: Identify and exclude! (kidding, of course ;-) )).
2. Train In The Distance (Is that a joke? Probably the most beatiful song on an album with Cars Are Cars on it as well!)
3. Loves Me Like A Rock (Great, great song. I know this album has all great ones, but if you have to choose, there must be something else than this favourite of mine).
4. Learn How To Fall (same comment as above).
5. Crazy Love vol. II (I was tempted to put this as number 2, as it has always been a huge favourite of mine, but I can see why some people donīt like it much. Still for tasteless people like that it should be obvious that it is at least better than Gumboots and Homeless! ;-) ) |

 | Oo, tricky one!
Iīll give it a whirl:
Could you link the post with the favourite album tracks? Us Libra people like to balance these things out!
1. Hoboīs Blues (this was very tricky, as I Love every song on this album! But this is my least favourite)
2. Loves Me Like A Rock (this might upset some, but I canīt STAND this song!)
3. My Little Town
4. Jonah (Only bad-ish song on an otherwise great album, same with number 2 choice)
5. Cars Are Cars
6. Graceland (now I AM being sacreligious!)
7. Canīt Run But
8. Virgil
9. Old
10. Beautiful
That was difficult! There are very few songs that I dislike by PS! I think the only time he loses me a bit is when he goes gospel. I like gospel, but not in the way he does it - just personal taste I guess.

 | I like this thread. I am sure Paul Simon would like it too. It has more response than the corresponding best-of thread several days before, which I like too.
There are several songs mentioned in both. That means, Paul-Simon-fans are very flexible. He always wrote for himself, but obviously for many different tastes.
Sumit and Soren, I really don`t like Homeless (too exotic) and cool, cool river (lack of melody.)
Mentioning Train In The Distance, Silent Eyes, Loves Me Like A Rock, Love, Further To Fly in both categories is more astonishing for me, but nevertheless it is interesting!

 | You are right Klausi. Nothing wrong with this thread. It gets people emotional, but thatīs very much what music should be all about.
Still, you not liking Cool, Cool River, is of course totally unacceptable ;-)
Put on that track 9 on your CP cd 1 and please tell me you will reconsider. From 2:50 and on you will have the privilege of listening to some of the most beatiful and soulful music ever recorded. It is correct that the verses might not have a lot of melody, but it blends nice with the beatiful bridges (The "I believe in the future..." - parts), and of course the horn part at the end gives it a very powerful finish.
So get started!
Iīm not crazy about Homeless either. |

 | I think Graceland is maybe the best song Paul Simon ever wrote... he even said that himself. This song is the perfect balance between US country music and african rhythms. And every line of itsī lyrics could stand alone as a poem.
Bernadette was the best song he ever wrote since Graceland, Paul also said when the Capeman came out. |

 | Yes, if I had written my above top 5 list after Tim/Brie posted, Graceland would have been number one. Certainly one of his best songs, and one that I never get tired of hearing. The live versions played lately and in 2000/2001/2002 are superb! Very odd choice, Tim/Brie :-) |

 | Haha! Well Iīm a very odd person ;-)
I do really like Graceland, but itīs probably my least favourite on a great album. It might be the slightly country-feel to it, as Iīm not a big country fan.
Iīve heard itīs Paulīs favourite song he has written?! It certainly took him a long time to write, so I think it was a real journey for him to compose from beginning to end result.
Itīs a testimony to Paul that there are so many different elements to his songs that different people latch on to and enjoy!
All the best,
Tim xx |

 | "Here are the results from the Swedish jury"... :-)
(I have only included Paul Simon songs, obviously some of the other recorded songs would have made the list, but the list is more interesting if only Paulīs songs are considered.)

 | I agree: all of the non-PS songs are the worst on the first S&G album!
He Was My Brother
Weīve Got A Groovy Thing Goinī
A Simple Desultory Phillipic (too Bob Dylan)
Voices Of Old People
Bye Bye Love (not a bad tribute to their roots, though)
Hoboīs Blues
St Judyīs Comet (tough call -- theyīre all good)
Youīre Kind
Oh, Marion
Train In The Distance (another tough call)
Homeless
Proof
Time Is An Ocean
Look At That
Father And Daughter
Some albums are really too good to pick a bad song -- but I tried!
