Simon will tour America and will take the tour further afield "as long as it doesn´t interfere too much with the school year" according to his Capital Gold interview.

Isn´t the school in the US all day?

I wonder what Paul is doing then all the time..sitting at home? Wouldn´t it make more sense to be with the children in summer when they do not have to go to school, and to tour when they are at school?

Education and family seem to be big priorities for Paul and, as he stated in the Steven Wright interview, he gets up early, awakens the children, and drives them to school. I think he prefers to tour in the summer so he can be part of the children´s school experiences (homework, etc) during the school year.

Bodo,

Not sure what you meant by "all day," but school in the U.S. is generally from about 8:00 (or 9:00) until about 2:00 (or 3:00). This varies by location. I´m not sure what hours there are where Paul´s children go to school, but ... point still remains that I think Paul wants to be part of the children´s "everyday" living, not just a "summer dad."

Bodo, not only don´t you get my humour....you don´t get Simon´s humour either!(Or maybe you DO and I don´t get yours!!)He was being tongue in cheek on both occasions.Best if you didn´t take things literally all the time.

Hi Bonnie,

I did not know that school is out so early. We always learned here that in the US you have a full-day school system, the children eat at school and then it continues on the afternoon. I thought till 4 or 5.

From 8 till 2 is the same time than we have school here. Or you have from 8 till 12, then go home and it continues from 2 till 5 (on 2 days per week)

BTW, thats right what you wrote Bonnie (and also what Paul said, it is no joke and no strange humour)
He said a few times in the last years that he will only tour in summer when the children can come with him. (2001,2002,2004), but if there are no other dates possible he also tours in fall (2000,2003)... so I hope he will also tour this fall in Europe. But he said this sentence every year now...and I always ask myself then, what he is doing all day...just waiting for the kids to come home?

I´ve never known him to come to Europe except in summer and that was even before he had kids. - Maybe north european autumn or winter weather don´t aree with him.

Scaaty - if you are used to NewYork winters then I don´t think you are afraid of European winters.

Here in the UK Schools starts from 8.45 and finishes anywhere from 3.15 to 3.30, depending on the school.

Maybe the problem will be more who will tour when, because Edie and the New Bohemians have a record out in July and they will tour, too. What a complicated life!
