Paul mentions the expression "doing time " in some Songs From The Capeman.I got the meaning, but I´m wanting to know if this is kind of jargon or if the Americans use it currently.(there´s no information on the dictionaries we checked.)

I believe it refers to doing time in prison but I might be wrong.

That´s correct. Doing time in prison. Sometimes people use it in other ways like waitiing for something to happen.
