 | Why change songs that are so perfect..Ive been waitng for 5 years to hear some of my favorites and there so different.. If your only gonna tour every 5 years you shouldnt change em too much. Tour evey 2 years feel free to goof with em. Thats what I think.. Am I wrong |

 | Well Kronsk, when you´ve played these somgs as many times as Paul has you would get bored, and Paul has said that in the past. It keeps the songs fresh for Paul.
As a long time fan I find it interesting when he changes them. As the writter it´s his right, at the end of the day. So, if you prefer the originals, listen to the albums, I like both myself :-) |

 | Its not like I hate the new versions. And Im still going to the show. But its kinda like waiting 5 years for strawberry and you get chocolate. Plus I was kinda hoping to share this show with my son... http://www.scmua.org/movie.wmv |

 | I have heard the songs now on 4 tours, always the same versions - and it got boring.
I am happy he changes them, let the man make something with his music, or he get bored too and stops touring.
2nd thing - with a smaller band he can not play all songs exactly as they are recorded. There is NO percussion and only a very small horn section. |

 | Arent Drums Percusion?
How can you get sick of Diamonds OTSOHS? If he only tours every 5 years that means you saw it 4 times in 20 years How does that get boring... Did you guys like new Coke too? If it aint broke dont fix it.. |

 | What do you mean with if he only tours every 5 years??
he toured solo in
1999
2000
2001
2002
and as s&G
2003
2004
so the only year he did not tour was in 2005 (take a look into the LIVE section)
As a PS fan you should know the difference between drums and percussion, especially because Simon uses percussion very excessive (ROTS for example does not even have a drum set on its studio recording)
Google for it

 | he played diamonds in that way in
1987
1989
1991
1993
1999
2000
2001
2002
he always changed the versions slightly - that is one of the main things Paul Simon does when he tours.
I do not drink Coke very often, if I had to drink it every day for 20 years...oh my god I would hate it.
If he can not change his music then you can also buy a live DVD and listen to the 1987 or 1991 version all the time (and they are also very different)
And again, without a percussion it would not sound the same. Steve alone should not play a 3 minute drum solo.
(But I am also not happy that Jamey is not in the band - I think even a lot of the new songs could need some percussion...and a tour without any ROTS songs is something I can only forgive Paul if he includes some of the rarest 70´s songs he never performed before...but I have a feeling that this will not happen :- ) |

 | I agree Bodo, we need ROTS songs! Born At The Right Time would work though and an acoustic Obvious Child ;-)
I didn´t like Diamonds this way when I first heard it but I have listened to it over and over again and it´s really grown on me.
I Love in the acapella bit when Vincent and Tony speak zulu and imitate Ladysmith.
BRING BACK JAMEY! |

 | SO outta those diamonds you listed I think Im correct in saying 5 times. YOu gotta count 87 and 89 as one.Etc I cant go to Europe...I am just a poor boy..
Maybe he should change the way it sounds and also change all the words and call it something else..
Hope Im not wearing out my welcome I just like the older one better sorry.

 | You can count it the way you want, Simon played it on around 400 or 500 shows including all the Back at the Ranch and Children health fund concerts, so I guess that was enough for him.
BTW this new version of Diamonds reminds me a little bit on the Dave Matthews version...don´t know why (maybe I should re-listen to that version before) |
